ABRAHAM MASLOW
• American psychologist who
developed the hierarchy of
needs.
• Born on April 1, 1908, in
Brooklyn, New York.
• Professor on Psychology.
• Abraham Maslow began
teaching at Brooklyn College
in 1937.
WHAT IS HIERARCHY OF
NEEDS?
• "A theory of human motivation"
• Physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self-
actualization.
• Maslow believed that human wants may be
structured into a hierarchy
PHYSIOLOGICAL
• Air, food, drink, housing, clothes, warmth, sex, and sleep
• The most essential of our needs
• The most important of human requirements, according to
Maslow, are physiological demands.
SAFETY
• safe environment
• In their lives, people desire to feel in control,
predictability, and order.
LOVE/BELONGING
• Includes feeling of belongingness
• This desire is important since it includes both
feeling loved and feeling loved by others.
ESTEEM
• Self-worth, accomplishment, and respect
• (I) self-esteem (dignity, success, mastery, and
independence) and (II) the need for others' respect or
reputation (status, reputation)
• Humans feel more confident if people recognize their
efforts and successes.
SELF-ACTUALIZATION
• Highest level on hierarchy
- Obtaining skills
- Pursuing life dreams
- Seeking happiness
• The pursuit of personal growth.
