MINOR SCALE
OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be


able to classify the minor scale , construct
the minor scale and mark pairs of musical
notes that make semitone in the scale .
The minor scale has three ( 3 ) forms :
 The Natural minor scale
 The Melodic minor scale
 The Harmonic minor scale
Natural Minor Scale
Pairs of notes that make a semitone are 2nd – 3rd and
5th – 6th degree notes .

Melodic Minor Scale


Pairs of notes that make a semitone are 2nd – 3rd and
7th – 8th degree notes , raising the 6th and 7th degree notes.

Harmonic Minor Scale


Pairs of notes that make a semitone are 2nd – 3rd , 5th – 6th
7th – 8th degree notes, raising the 7th degree note .
CONSTRUCTION OF NATURAL MINOR SCALES
ASSIGNMENT
Without drawing the stave, write out the letter names of notes and
their degree numbers , then underline the pairs of notes that make a
semitone in the following scales :
i Ascending F minor natural scale
ii Ascending A minor natural scale.
The first answer is given as an example
