reinforcement under live load
• Summary :
• Use #5 bars at 12 in spacing for main
positive moment reinforcement
• Use #5 bars at 11 in spacing for main
negative moment reinforcement
• Design Flexural Strength

Flexure • Check Flexural Strength

Design
• Check LRFD equation

• Determine shear stress
Where:
= resistance factor for shear is 0.9
= width of web
= factored shear stress f
Shear Design = effective shear

• Determine the minimum required transverse

reinforcement

• Determine nominal shear resistance ( )

• Check LRFD equation

• A simple supported prestressed I girder bridge with a
span of 110 feet was designed based on AASHTO
LRFD specifications.
• The interior girders were designed following the design
example in the class
• The flexural strength of the girders are mainly taken by
½ inch diameter strands with number of 58, with
Conclusion pretensioned force of 1546 kips.
• 2 #4 re-bars are required at the top of the girder for
tensile stress control.
• 2 #4 bar spaced at 18 inches were used for transverse
reinforcement.
• deck design, #5 bars with spacing of 12 inches for
main positive moment and a spacing of 11 inches for
the negative moment.
