OBJECTIVES

✓ To identify the different facilities and equipment


required in basketball.

✓ To familiarize oneself with the specifications of


the different facilities and equipment in

A. THE BASKETBALL COURT

A. The Basketball Court

The playing court shall


have a flat, hard surface
free from obstructions
with dimensions of
twenty-eight (28) m in
lenght by fifteen (15) m in
width measured from the
inner edge of the
boundary line.

BACKCOURT

A team's backcourt consits of its


team's own basket, the
inbounds part of the backboard
and that part of the playing
court limited by the endline
behind the team's own basket,
the sidelines and the centre line.

FRONT COURT

A team's frontcourt consists of


the opponent's basket, the
inbounds part of the backboard
and that part of the playing
court limited by the endline
behind the opponent's basket,
the sidelines and the inner edge
of the centre line nearest to the
opponent's basket.

All lines shall be drawn


in white color, five (5)
cm in width and clearly
visible. This includes
the boundary line, END LINE
centre line, centre
circle and free-throw
semi circles, free-
throw lines, restricted
areas and free-throw
rebound places, and
three-point field goal
area.

The team bench arreas shall be marked outside the playing court limited two (2)
lines. There must be 14 seats available in the team bench area for the coaches, the
assitant coaches, the substitutes and the team followers. Any other persons shall
be at least two (2) m behind the team bench.

The following equipment will be required:

• Backstop units, consisting of:


 Backboards
 Basket comprising (pressure release) rings and nets
 Backboards support structures including padding

RING AND NET
BASKETBALLS • A basketball ball is a spherical ball
used in basketball games.
• A standard NBA basketball has a
diameter between 9.43 and 9.51
inches.
• In the WNBA, the basketball has a
diameter of between 9.07 and 9.23
inches.
• Basketballs used in the NCAA are
between 9.39 and 9.55 inches for
men and 9.07 and 9.23 inches for
women.
