THE VARANASI TOWN IS SITUATED ON THE BANK OF GANGA

RIVER.

THE POPULATION OF THE TOWN AS PER CENSUS 2011 IS

36,76,841 SOULS. HOWEVER THE FLOATING POPULATION OF
THE TOWN IS NEARLY 50 LACS PER YEAR.
 OBJECTIVES
 THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY IS TO PREPARE A
MASTER PLAN & GIS MAP FOR WATER SUPPLY & SEWERAGE SYSTEM
MANAGEMENT IN VARANASI TOWN.
 THIS INCLUDE WORK OF SURVEYING, CONTOUR MAPPING, CONSUMER
SURVEY AT EVERY HOUSE HOLD LEVEL, DATA COLLECTION, STUDY OF
EXISTING SYSTEM, PREPARATION OF MAPS OF EXISTING SYSTEM OF
WATER SUPPLY & SEWERAGE SYSTEM COMPLETE IN ALL RESPECT.
 IDENTIFICATION OF LOCATIONS OF NEW HEAD WORKS, DETAILLED
DESIGNING, PROVIDING DRAWINGS, LOCATION IDENTIFICATION, AND
DETAIL DESIGN OF WATER SUPPLY DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM AND
SEWERAGE SYSTEM IN VARANASI TOWN FOR NEXT 30 YEARS.
 MAKING OF GIS BASED MAPS FOR WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM AND
SEWERAGE SYSTEM.
 ANY WORK REQUIRED FOR THE COMPLETION OF PROJECT WILL BE
INCLUDED IN THE PROJECT.

 APPROACH
 The detailed proposals will be prepared based on the guidelines laid
down in manuals on water supply and treatment and sewerage
system and treatment Published by CPHEEO Ministry of Urban
Development, Govt. of India.
 The guidelines manuals of the UP Jal Nigam will be followed.

 The estimates will be prepared on the basis of schedule of rate

applicable in the Jal Nigam (Urban), or as per guidelines of Uttar
Pradesh Jal Nigam (Urban).
 Drawings in detail will be prepared.

 GIS map of Existing system will be prepared.

 All the details of the project will be shown in the report.

 INNOVATIVE WAYS OF WORKING
1. To achieve this goals detail work plan will be prepared working in
innovation ways.
2. The required staff will be mobilized and the different assignments
will be given after break down of work in small activities
3. Individual will be monitored for the results and timely outputs to
achieve the given goals in time.
4. To make the system of Operation and Maintenance innovative
system and equipment's will be designed in the project.

 SURVEY & DATA COLLECTION

 Topography Survey of the new and existing area

where ever required.
 Data collection from various agencies.
 Consumer Survey at House Hold level.
 Contour Mapping of the areas.
 Identification of Source & location of land for new
Headworks.
 PREPRATION OF GIS BASED PLAN
 The details of the Existing Pipe lines of Water distribution network
and Sewerage Network & the system including all structures, plants
and Electrical-Mechanical Equipment's be taken from the concerned
departments.
 Data collection of the Existing System from the concerned Operation
and Maintenance in charge.
 Digitization of these Existing Water Supply & Sewerage System will be
done on the ARC GIS software.
 Once the complete Digitization of the Existing Water Distribution
network and Sewerage network, the GIS based plan will be submitted
to the department.
 This GIS based plan of Existing system will help to identify the gaps,
faults & sufficiency of the Existing system.
 Also it will be used to plan the Proposed system for the Existing area &
the Extended area of the Town.
 DESIGN CRITERIA
Design population for Base Year, Mid Year & Final Stage of project i.e. 2025, 2040

The Water supply Distribution system & Sewerage system have been designed on

the basis of following parameters as per design criteria:

Design of population will be on basis of Census population of last decades. The

a) Floating population will be surveyed & considered in the demand of the Town &
Sewerage load.

b) Design Final Stage is year 2055.

c) Design Base Year is taken as 2025.

d) Design Period = 30 Years

e) Distribution Period is 24 hours.

f) Peak Factor = 2.5

g) Minimum Terminal Pressure = 12 M

Minimum diameter of Pipe = 100mm for Water supply & 200mm for Sewerage

Storage capacity of OHT is calculated on the basis of the Nigam guidelines &

The design criteria adopted for the works proposed under the Detailed Project
vi. Report (DPR) in accordance with the CPHEEO Manual Govt. of India and
guidelines of Jal Nigam Uttar Pradesh.
 EXISTING SYSTEM
WTP/STP

The Existing WTP’s & STP’s will be studied for their

performance & sufficiency. The structure will be
surveyed for their stability and balance life. The system
will also be studied and any upgradation is required, it
will be suggested for modification of existing WTP/STP
with latest technology if required. Augmentation /
repair / replacement of existing WTP / STP where ever
new WTP/ STP are required in new areas, there will be
proposed.
 EXISTING SYSTEM
PUMP HOUSE
The existing Raw Water & Clear Water Pump Houses, Sewerage
Pumping Stations will be surveyed and examined for stability of
the structures and balance life. New pump House in new area if
required will be included in the project.
The existing motor pumps in the various pump houses will be
examined for required duty conditions, performances, power
consumption and efficiency.
The physical condition of the pumps and motor will be surveyed
& any modification, upgradation or replacement is required it
will be suggested in the Master Plan. Where ever additional
pumps if any required will also be included.
 EXISTING SYSTEM
ZONING

Existing Water supply Zone will be analyzed and checked

for their sufficiency. Where ever reorganization of the
zones is required it will be done. Similarly the extended
area of the City will also be studied & considered for
zoning.
 PHASING OF PROJECT
The phasing of the project targets will be done, phase I
will be for first 15 years after the base year. Second phase
will be for next 15 years. These phase will be done
according to spread of city in first 15 years and next 15
years.

SUPPLY
The Existing Source, Intake Structures, Raw Water Pump
House will be surveyed for the sufficiency, structural
stability and physical condition of the structures.

RESERVOIRS

All the existing reservoirs i.e. UGR, Over Head Tanks will
be surveyed for their stability and physical condition &
Balance life. The reservoirs where ever seems to be
augment or repair, or replace or new will be proposed in
new areas.

LINES
The Existing clear water pipe line network/sewer line
network will be examined for their sufficiency. The
performance and physical condition of pipes valve etc
will be surveyed and necessary provision for upgradation
or replacement will be taken in Master Plan. New
Network will be proposed in the new and additional area
of town.
 PROJECT PROPOSALS
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENTS, AUTOMIZATION &
SCADA

The performance of all equipment's will be examined.

Where ever modification or replacement and in any
informative system will required new equipment for
monitoring/control, atomization etc is required these
will be replaced.

Estimation for capital works and Operation &

Maintenance works will be prepared on the basis of
current applicable SOR and what ever items not available
in SOR market rate/rate analysis rate will be taken.
