Aviation career Pathway

Introduction

Aviation has brought many destinations closer together and is more accessible than
ever before. Travel times have been gradually reduced as faster and more efficient
aircraft are used to transport people and freight.
Aviation is made up of two main groups:
• Flight operations
• Ground operations
Ground operations

• Ground Operations involve all of the activities surrounding the movement of


people and freight in and around airports

• With many flights scheduled for different intrastate, interstate and


international destinations, it is up to both landside and airside workers to
ensure a safe and smooth transition of people and goods to specific locations.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER
• Air Traffic Controllers are responsible for maintaining the safe and orderly
movement of aircraft along major air routes and around airports.
• They give pilots instructions and advice as to height, speed and course.
• Controllers have a number of aircraft under their control at any one time
• Ensuring that aircraft take-off and land safely is the key responsibility of
Air Traffic Controllers.
• be responsible for approach work or aerodrome control duties
• Direct the movement of aircraft at an airport or en-route
• Provide information to aircraft about weather conditions
• Ensure minimum distances are maintained between planes
• Handle unexpected events, emergencies and unscheduled traffic
RAMP SERVICES agent

Aircraft marshaller:
Give ground navigational signal by using body
gestures to pilot at an airport
At airports, the marshaller signals the pilot to keep
turning, slow down, stop, and shut down
engines, leading the aircraft to its parking stand
or to the runway
FREIGHT HANDLER
• Transport baggage, cases and cargo around an airport.
• Load and unload passenger baggage and freight (e.g.
animals and perishables) on and off planes and
helicopters.
• Operate and place mobile stairs.
• Check for any priority baggage and assign all baggage
to the correct carousel.
AIRCRAFT REFUELLER
• Assist with safe refuelling of aircraft.
• Other site operations including equipment
checks.
• Fuel quality control.
• Stock Control and data entry.
AIRPORT SECURITY OFFICER

• Control the movement of the public through the


screening point.
• View items of baggage passing through the X-ray
unit and classify items.
• Carry out Explosive Trace Detection (ETD)
• on passengers moving through the screening
point.
AERODROME REPORTING OFFICER or
(AIRPORT REPORTING OFFICER)

• Regularly inspect the aerodrome and report


situations affecting operations
• Maintain radio communication.
• Supervise the safety of aerodrome works and
general access.
• Maintain situational awareness.
Flight operation officer

• A flight dispatcher (flight operations officer) assists in


planning flight plan , taking into account aircraft
performance and loading , calculating fuel ,
notams ,weight and balance ,weather reports and
airport conditions.
• Assisting pilot in preparing plans ,approving and signing
such plans and filling the air traffic control flight plan
• Furnishing the pilot while enroute , by information
which may be necessary for safe conduct of flight
Custom officers

• A customs airport is an airport notified by the appropriate customs authority


of the country as an airport which shall be airports for the unloading of
imported goods and the loading of export goods or any class of such goods.
• searching baggage and individuals for smuggled items
• making arrests of people suspected of smuggling
• seizing smuggled goods
• checking documentation relating to imported goods
• detecting and prosecuting drug smugglers
• collecting and supplying trade statistics
• writing reports
• fighting the increasing problem of alcohol and tobacco smuggling
Immigration officers

• observing passengers passing through passport control


areas
• examining passports and visas
• conducting interviews
• working on surveillance operations
• organising for people to be sent back to another country if
they're not entitled to be in the UK
• collecting statistics
• writing reports
Anti narcotic Force ANF

• Anti-Narcotics Force is a Federal Executive bureau


of the Government of Pakistan, tasked with
combating the narcotics smuggling and use within
Pakistan. ANF works under umbrella of Pakistan
Army and Ministry of Narcotics Control (Pakistan)
• The ANF also has sole responsibility for co-
ordinating and pursuing Pakistan narcotics
investigations abroad.
CUSTOMER SERVICES CENTRE AGENT

• Provide flight, ground transportation and tourist


information to passengers.
• Making public address announcements
• Dealing with lost and found property
• Co-ordination of ground transport
• Emergency training
• Assistance for passengers with reduced mobility
Fire Fighter.

• To assist in fire prevention duties within airport premises including -


testing of fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, hand fire appliances
and hose reels
• Inspection, testing and maintenance of rescue and fire fighting
equipment
• To attend training courses as required to obtain the necessary
qualifications and proficiency as an Airport Fire Fighter
• Deliver airport staff fire training.
• To provide assistance to disabled passengers getting on or off
aircraft
• To assist in the clearing of runway, taxiways and apron
AIRPORT MANAGER

Comply with FAA regulations and other guidelines.


Supervise managers and staff.
Plan budgets.
Adapt to outside factors, such as weather.
Work with community leaders.
Maintain accurate records.
Oversee the maintenance and repair of airport
equipment.
Aircraft engineer

• supervising the assembly of aircraft systems and


engines.
• Testing aircraft to measure performance and
identify areas for improvement.
• Developing design specifications
for aircraft systems.
• Applying scientific principles to improve the
performance of aircraft.
Flight operation

• Just as important as the men and women on


the ground coordinating the movement of
people, aircraft and cargo, those in the air play
an equally vital role.
• Flight operations can be further broken down into two
main groups; civil aviation and military aviation.
