RUTONGO CONCESSION - OVERVIEW

• Rutongo Mines Ltd is located in


Rulindo District, Northern Province
• Concession covers 5 Sectors: Jabana,
Masoro, Murambi, Cynzuzi,
Ntabarana
• Mining is taking place in the region
since the 1930’s
• Six main mine sites: Nyamyumba,
Gasambya, Masoro, Mahaza,
Karambo and Gisanze
• Estimated to have more than 60km’s
of tunnels including all historical
tunnels

Site Security Assistance for workers & Guests

Entry into the Mine area is controlled by a security check point


at the entrance.

A valid Security Pass is required respectfully lets be humble and gentle, as we


are allowing security guards to carry out there duties . and the entrance cards
should be provided
To the visitors .

Conditions of entry

All Workers and Visitors must firstly report to Security and sign In/Out Register on each
entry and exit.
Workers and Visitors attending the facility for the first time will be required to undergo
OHS induction prior to commencing any work on site.

Failure to do so will mean access to the premises will be not be granted.

Workers and Visitors Responsibilities
• Workers and Visitors shall be in a fit and proper condition prior entering into an area of
operation. SHEC has right to refuse people who failed to comply with above criteria's
Wear & use all the times recommended personnel protective equipment.

• Communicate pre-job Hazards and risks

Working at RUTONGO MINE Site

All personnel must: Comply with OHS policies and procedures

Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, and of the environment

Consider the safety of other persons who may be affected by your acts
and omissions

Comply with all instructions, regarding HS given by Supervision and


Management

Observe safety signs and barriers at all times

Ensure that appropriate HS equipment and controls are employed at


all times

Report all accidents, damage, hazardous situations and near misses


immediately to your Supervisor or HS

Carry out your work responsibly at all times

PPE REQUIREMENTS

:
• As an absolute minimum, all personnel working on site
or Visitors shall wear; Overalls, Safety Boots and Hard
Hats as it is mandatory.

Safety and Security Staff shall refuse entry to the
Working Areas to personnel not wearing the correct
PPE

SMOKING

:
Smoking is not permitted in any offices, accommodation, or
enclosed public spaces except at clearly designated smoking
areas
Cigarette butts shall be placed in cigarette bins provided at the
smoking areas. This removes a fire hazard and it brings onboard
good housekeeping

In the event of discovering a small fire;

If you fail to extinguish the fire, evacuate the area and
contact your supervisor

ROAD SAFETY

:
The speed limit inside the Site is 30km,20km per hour
depends on the area(Site Speed Limits) and 10km

Vehicle is inspected & confirmed to be in safe working
order..

Drivers are trained and certified to operate the class


of vehicle

Seat belts are installed and worn by all occupants.

Hand held phones are not used by the driver while


vehicle is moving.

ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS


:

The risk level related to hazards at a workplace can be


significantly increased by alcohol and other drugs. Workers will
not use or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs at
least not at rutongo mines of 2023.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
In event of alarm you are required to make your job safe,
proceed
directly your nearest muster point and remain there until
: advised to
leave. Do not run.

All emergencies (fire, explosion, structural failure,


injury),any incidents
and near-misses to be immediately reported to: Mine
supervisor, Safety officer, Safety Supervisor, SHEC

◾ First Aid rooms are constructed at all the main tunnel entrances at
the all sites.
◾ All first aid room attendants are trained in basic first aid.
◾ Rutongo is busy with a basic first aid training programme for all
employees through the Red Cross.To date 320 employees have been
trained.
◾ Training will continue until all employees are certified in basic first aid.
◾ Rutongo has employed trained Safety Officers which visit the offices, mine
sites and underground workings to conduct audits on working conditions as
well as holding morning safety meetings with miners before entering the
tunnels.
◾ All findings of the audit are reported to Management daily.
◾ A weekly safety meeting is being held with all senior staff to discuss
incidents and accidents and implement remedial action to prevent

TRAININGS ON VFL AND GEOTECH
RUTONGO MINING PLAN – NYAMYUMBA ORE
PASS SYSTEM

 The Orepasses will allow us to move Ore and


BV16 take it down to lowest level /processing
plant.
 It will also improve tramming efficiencies and
BV27 cycle times for the locos as the tipping
should be a lot quicker than outside.

 We are going to trail a new type of wagon
8 (self- tipping) with a larger capacity in order to
BV4 increase volumes.

BV31  Ore passes will eliminate the environmental

working levels to the BV32 processing plant

◾ The mines uphold and promote compliance with
fundamental human rights and actively contribute to
building productive, respectful and mutually beneficial
economic partnerships with the surrounding
communities
◾ Active programs within the wider community are in
place, such as:
 Agricultural assistance projects providing breeding
stock
goats and cows
 School fees for children in the community
 Steel sheeting for roofing has been provided to
the community for the eradication of grass
roofing
 Timber nurseries established for re-forestation –
for the
community and the mines
 Donation of fruit trees to the community 20
