Overall, The Queen’s Gambit is a good read that sheds light not only on chess
but also on the many aspects of society. It gave us another perspective on the
various nuances of life, the perspective of Elizabeth Harmon, a young
American woman in the 20th century. And even though there were trying times
and hardships, she still persevered and refused to give up.

Beside Beth, there are plenty of interesting characters like Jolene DeWitt, her
best friend from childhood whom she had always held dear; Alma Wheatley,
her adoptive mother who helped her greatly with her chess career; and Benny
Watts, the former U.S. Champion and also a love interest. These characters
are multi-faceted and are tantamount to the development of Beth’s
personality, but they can also be very entertaining at times.
