WHAT IS MIDDLE CHILDHOOD - Refers to the stage between " Early childhood and

Adolescence " usually defined a age 16 through 12 years old. During this critical period your child will
go through significant COGNITIVE, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT.
1. COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT - refers to mental processes like THINKING, MEMORY AND
DECISION MAKING. During middle childhood include.
CONSERVATION OF THOUGHT - the understanding that something stays the same in quantity even
though its appearance change
ABSTRACT THINKING - the ability to imagine things not seen or experienced and asking more
question about life and the things around them.
A SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE - the capacity to think about what they are feeling and how other
perceive them.
2. EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - during middle childhood is extremely and complex and is
marked by.
IDENTITY FORMATION - define by the child`s
SENSE OF SELF - which develops are explore their TALENT, GOALS AND LIFE EXPERIENCES.
SELF ESTEEM - how they EVALUATE their own SELF - WORTH
EMOTIONAL REGULATION - beginning to recognized that how they think can affect. How they
feel and a ability to identify express and manage their emotions and an understanding that not all
emotion should be expressed externally.
3. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT - refers to a child`s ability to form positive relationship in the middle
childhood they will experience change in these Three areas.
FAMILY: while reliant on their family relationship to function they`re also becoming more
emotionally, independent as they enter early " adolescences " they appreciate a need to have more
privacy and independence.
PEER: more interested in same sex peer group. Around ages 10 to 13 Will begin to befriend opposite
sex. Peers and place greater importance on peer relationships as they get older.
SEXUAL: Question start to arise changes in the body related to PUBERTY and what sex is. As
children reach adolescence and entering relationships.
WHAT IS ADOLESCENCE
- it is the Transitional stage from childhood to adulthood that occurs between 12 to 18 or 13 to 19

WHAT IS PUBERTY
- is the process that includes many physical and emotional change.

FEMALE may start their puberty as Early as age of 8 - 12

MALE start at the age of 10 - 14


During puberty male and female can express some change like physical change, emotionally change
& social change.
Early Adulthood ( from late teens 19 to 29 years old) – It is a time of establishing personal and
economic independence, career development, selecting a mate, learning to live with someone in an
intimate way, starting a family and rearing child.
