PROJECT DESCRIPTION
o Sri Lanka s Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) is mandated to develop and implement the country s policy for RE development, EE improvement and energy conservation

o BROAD OBJECTIVE:
o To strengthen the institutional capacity and technical capability of the SEA to facilitate and coordinate government s efforts to promote sustainable development of renewable energy sources

Specific Objectives
 

Quantification of resource requirements for Sustainable Energy Fund and identification of sources of funding institutional development assistance
Resource Development (RDD) Exploration and Facilitation scope of work, outsourcing, job descriptions, procedures and operational manuals

 

Human resource development and capacity building Assistance to develop 10 Year Action Plan for the Renewable Energy, and review of policy instruments for renewable energy

IMPACTS AND OUTCOMES


o Built adequate capacity and technical knowledge on managing portfolio of RE projects
o Project identification and assessment o Documentation and inventory of all RE resources o providing quality information to project developers.

o Created an enabling environment to encourage investments to significantly enhance RE generation.

IMPORTANCE OF CEFPF SUPPORT


o Enhances energy security and addresses climate change o Lowers barriers to RE/EE development o Renewable energy development o Energy efficiency and energy conservation initiatives o Builds local capacity o Strengthen the institutional capacity and technical capability through training workshops and seminars

o Sustainable Power Sector Support Project for Sri Lanka

o SEA - implementing agency


o Estate Micro-Hydro Rehabilitation and Repowering Pilot credit line o $1.29 million to private developers for about 19 micro-hydro sub-projects o 1.3 megawatt of grid connected capacity on a net metering basis o SEA, supported by project consultants financed from loan proceeds, will be responsible for technical evaluation of sub-projects
