IN vErNACuLAr ArCHITECTurE
Summary
This paper explores verncular objects built on the area of the mountain Povlen in western
Serbia incurred in the period since 1850 to 1950. Documentation was collected by the research
conducted since 1998 to 2000. Each area characteristics will imply the final structural system implemented during construction. Analysis of structural system applied to a territory or in a period of
time, leads to valuable information about vegetation, population origin, migrations etc. The main
impacts on structural system choise are: materials found at the construction site, builders expertise
and available labor.
