Abstract: Lunica is situated in southeaster Serbia and is consists of 52 settlem. In this paper are emphasized
four main stages in evolution of Lunica: initial (from the old ages until the period of Turkish rule), early stage
(period of Turkish rule), central stage (from the liberation to the end of The Second World war), and modern stage
that lasts for more than 50 years. The specific demographic development from the year of 1879. until modern days is
denoted with changes in natural increase and migration. That is caused by the influences of the environmental
factors, and also social-historic, economic, socio-psychological and other factors. Since the 60-s this territory is the
good example of the area with high altitude and negative appearances in demographic development (depopulation
and intensive emigration)
Key words: settlements, population, Luznica, demographic changes, transformations

MARIJA MARTINOVI
DANICA ANTI
Summary
THE LUNICA SETTLEMENTS
Geographic-Historical And Spatial-Demographic TransformationThe development of Lunica settlements went through many geographic, historic and spatial-demographic
changes. Geographical, historical and antopogeographical conditions were in favour to settlement development in
antic times and middle ages, when the Lunica were first mentioned in written sources. After the liberation from
the turkish rule settlements transformed considerably-demographicly (population increace etc.), fizionomicly
(growing of the settlements in area), changes of property of the land etc) and funcional (decreasing of traditional,
agrarian function, apperiance of the new function etc.). Today, with acctual demographic changes (redaction in
rural population, increasing the urban population etc.) special equilibrium in the development of Babunica, on the
one side, and the rest of the Lunica settlements on the other side, has been interrupted. Positive overall
development of Babunica is primarily caused by good traffic connections, industrial development etc. The
settlements, which are located in the mountains, are in the conditions of inadequate state treatment are in the stage
of stagnation and demographic disapirence.
