Wealth is not Valuable: Love is

by Clydene Overbey It is brutally cold here today. The wind is blowing 3540 MPH and the wind chill is supposedly at a dangerous level. It is just hard to stay warm. I am thinking about the house where I grew up, very open and airy. As I sit here in a good tight house and Im cold, I just cant imagine the winters in that wonderful house that was my home. We had lots of love, but even though the song says it does, love doesnt keep you warm. I remember when Norman was small he slept in the bed with Mamma and I slept in the bed with Daddy because they were afraid we couldnt stay warm. The little heater was like a drop in a bucket when it came to heat, but I guess it kept us from completely freezing to death. On cold winter nights like this one will be, we all slept together. Daddy set one of the iron beds up in front of that little stove and we all slept there. I remember how warm and safe I felt. There were very cold nights when the pressure would go down or the gas would freeze up. Daddy had to watch so the stove didnt come on and gas us. I dont imagine Daddy slept much most nights. If you left a little bit of water in a container anywhere in the house it would freeze up tight. No way did we ever step out of the bed with bare feet like I do now. We were warned by our parents to never do that. Well, of course, you know miss, try it or bust me. I did it one morning and there was frost on the floor. Never did that again. Daddy had to go out before daylight and bring in water, slop the hog, feed the horse, cow and chickens. I cry now to think of that dear sweet man having to do that. Mamma would carry Norman on her hip and cook breakfast. I can remember seeing her shaking from the cold. Years later, after Daddy was gone, Mamma had a nice snug apartment with central heat and air. She would often say, Oh how I wish you kids could have had this growing up. Or I wish Clyde was here to enjoy this. After Norman and I were out on our own they were able to make some improvements on the old house, but it was still old and was never perfect. I was so happy for them and so proud that they were my parents. I told Mamma one day when she was wishing for us, Mamma, Norman and I had the very best of everything and we didnt have any reason to want for more. The way we grew up with Daddy and you in that wonderful house

that was a home, it made us what we are today. I wouldnt have it any different. She cried when I said that just the way I am crying right now. Revelation 21:4 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Hill's Chapel & Other Places

By Audine Walker Hello, everyone. We got another winter storm and it was pretty bad, but it could have been worse in our area. Northwest Arkansas got it worse than we did. People missed work and schools were closed and winter is not over yet, but hopefully spring will be here soon. Happy belated birthday to Ken Belt on Feb. 19, and to Bridgette Langston, Feb. 25. Happy birthday to Linda Hufford on Sunday, March 9. My sympathy to the family of Jerry Ingram in the loss of their loved one. May God comfort you in your sorrow. My sympathy to the family of Vernita Smither in the loss of their loved one. Vernita was a member of Sandy Chapel where I attend, also known as Mt. Zion. My dad preached at Piney Regular Baptist Church where Vernita attended church when she was growing up. She was an Archer and grew up in the Piney community. Church was held in the Piney School house. She was the great-aunt of my grandson, Matt Walker. May God comfort her family and friends in their sorrow. Jonetta and I didnt attend church last Sunday as we were worried about not making it back home. I talked to my cousin-in-law, Dub Shankle, and they did have a short service. Elder Stephen Tate brought the message as Elder Billy Barron was not able to make it from northwest Arkansas. Congratulations to the Ozark Hillbilly Girls basketball team. They played Nashville in the first round of the state tournament and won. They were runners-up in the regionals. Happy birthday to my great-grandson, Zachary Walker, on Monday, March 17. I love you! Champ and Shirley Cagle are home and doing very well. Please remember them in prayer

Grass fire Thursday on Carbon Plant Road Altus Rural Fire Department was paged out at 12:56 p.m. Thursday to 5802 Carbon Plant Road to a grass fire which burned about 2 acres. Three trucks and nine personnel responded and were on the scene for about 45 minutes. The report indicated that burn piles had been set on fire while there was snow on the ground, but due to windy conditions, the fire spread through the field of dry grass. No injuries or property damage were reported.

READERS Andrew Gilliam and Sophie Quinter from Ozark Primary School.

Students read to children

Stacey Jones first grade class collaborated with the preschool teachers and students from Kidz Care Daycare. Shown here are two of the five students who walked to the daycare center weekly to read to the three and fouryear- old classes. The first graders wanted the three and four-year-olds to see how much fun reading can be and how important it is to read every day. Those reading to the preschoolers were Sophie Quinter, Andrew Gilliam and Ryder Sklolarski. Nathan Boswell and Sydney Owens.

St. Mary's Mtn.

By Lynda Evans Greetings! It is to be so pretty the next couple of days I will be outside digging around. Now that it is nice, dont call, just come over because I wont be in the house until November to answer the phone. Everyone is ready for sunshine and warm weather. Our cousin, Gary Post, from Lawrence, Kan., is getting a new job in Port Charlotte, Fla., with a newspaper company. Congratulations. He and Lori will be moving soon. He claims to be getting a small house there, but I think he is afraid all his northern cousins will be descending on him quickly. They bought our Miata a few years ago and that is perfect weather for top down riding. The company is family oriented and when Gary said he needed time off in July for our family reunion it was no problem. Nice to know some places still think of us as people and not a number. Speaking of the reunion there is a meeting at our home Sunday at 3 to discuss this years event. We have the John and Sophie Post family reunion every three years and have a great time. It is always around the 4th of July. The fish fry Friday was so good and we had a good turnout. The other dates are March 11, 18 and April 4. The Knights are donating the monies to the following people: Harper Shankle, Garrett Hodges and Hudson Stane. The last dinner will also have a pie auction. They are an active group who do good things for others. Bill Leding showed me the refinished kitchen floor. It looks brand new. They had it stripped and waxed. So many helped take out everything that wasnt nailed down from the kitchen and then put it back. A while ago I had asked Bill if they were going to get a new floor and he said all it needed was to be cleaned the right way. Seeing the before and after was an eye opener. I dont know what the next project is for the Leding boys, but they sure do a lot for the good of our church. Thank you! Get well wishes to Ronald, Kens brother, on his recovering from hip surgery. He had it on Saturday and is starting therapy Monday, ouch! He and his wife, Lucy, are going together as she is recovering from foot surgery and has therapy also. The fog is so thick this morning. It is 9 and I still cant see either of my neighbors homes. Better get outside and
