Storybook Village on Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ohio History Centers

will entertain children at the event. The Ohio History Connection will provide a free shuttle bus
service from three nearby neighborhoods, including Weinland Park, to the event.
Kari Welch of the Schoenbaum Family Center explained that Weinland Park children may enroll
in a kindergarten readiness program free of charge this summer at the family center. Two
sessions will be held with the first session starting in early June. The target audience is children
who will be entering kindergarten this fall.
Chris Orban, chair of the civic associations Mobility Committee, introduced Lisa LaManita,
planning manager, and Eliza Thrush, planner, both from the citys Division of Traffic
Management. Mr. Orban then directed those in attendance to participate in small group
discussions of mobility issues in Weinland Park.
After about 20 minutes, the small groups reported back to the full meeting. Among the comments
from the small groups were:

Sidewalks are in poor condition along north side of East Ninth Avenue.
Motorists are not correctly using the roundabouts on North Grant Avenue.
Potholes throughout the neighborhood are a problem, particularly for bicyclists.
One resident questioned the functionality of the two-way bicycle lanes on Summit Street
north of East 11th Avenue.
The intersection of East Seventh and North Fourth Street has cracks in the pavement due to
street construction that make bicycling more difficult.
Summit and North Fourth streets should be returned to two-way. These two streets should be
as pedestrian friendly as possible.
The location of the crosswalk at North Fourth and East Eighth could be improved.
On Sixth Avenue between Courtland and Summit, there is no sidewalk or only partial
sidewalks.
Street trees are helpful with traffic calming.
Courtland Avenue cant accommodate two-way traffic.
Pedestrian crosswalk is needed at East Ninth and Summit Street.
East Fifth Avenue should have parking on both sides of the street to calm traffic.
East Seventh and Summit Street is a dangerous intersection for pedestrians.
Hamlet at East Ninth Avenue needs better signage to indicate that the street is one-way north.

A Do not block intersection sign is needed on North Fourth Street at East Ninth Avenue.

Ms. LaManita reported a striped pedestrian crosswalk will be installed soon on Summit Street at
East Sixth Avenue. She also reported the city is studying the East Seventh and Summit Street
intersection for improvements to safety. She noted the city receives complaints about speeding
from neighborhoods across the city, particularly neighborhoods with grid street patterns.

6, from noon to 4 p.m. in the city park behind the elementary school. A new attraction this year

Weinland Park children.
Mr. Sterrett reported the sixth annual Roots & Roofs event on May 14 went very well, despite
the overcast skies and cool weather. Residents and community volunteers worked in eight
community garden sites. In addition, about 30 volunteers from Veritas Community Church
worked at the homes of eight senior citizens. All of the bulbs and nearly all of the plants were
sold, as well as 585 bags of mulch. The plant sale raised $438.90 for the civic association.
