GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE

My Brothers All,

I hope everyone had a holy and blessed Easter with your families and friends.
We are coming to the end of the fraternal year and have a new slate of
officers whose names are in another part of the Beacon. Please look for it.
Elections will take place at the June 7th Business meeting. All your officers
are men willing to take on the leadership role of running our council. Without
their willingness to put in the time and effort there would be no council.
Therefore I ask all members give them your support by attending
meetings and helping out in any events they plan. Charity is not only donating
money but it is also helping your fellow brothers. By being active in any
origination you gain friends and enjoyment.
In service The month of May is going to be very busy as you can see from the
event list. Our Councils annual Communion Breakfast is May 21 after the 8:00

to one. am Mass at St Anthonys Church. Please attend it with your families and
friend. I thank SK John Sommers PGK, DD for chairing this event. We are also
sponsoring a Communion Breakfast at St Louis de Montfort parish Chaired by

In service SK Rich Bowne. Please support them by helping out or attending these
events.
SK Paul Basileo is once again chairing the Charity chance book drive.
to all. This is an excellent money maker for the council as well as enabling us to give
to needy causes. Please help Paul with selling chances outside stores. Signup
sheets will be at the May 3rd Meeting.
Well this is my next to last letter. I cant believe how fast the last 10
months went. It has been an experience I enjoyed and will remember.

Vivat Jesus

Yours in Christ,

S.K. Frederick S. Hess

Im Going to Keep My Baby

A week prior to the feast of the Annunciation, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson attended the
blessing of a mobile ultrasound unit donated to A Womans Haven, a pro-life pregnancy center
in San Antonio. Archbishop Gustavo Garca-Siller of San Antonio blessed the mobile ultra-
sound unit. Attending the ceremony with Supreme Knight Anderson were Supreme Director Javier Martinez, Texas State Deputy
Douglas Oldmixon, General Agent Steve Michlik of the Michlik Agency and San Antonio Diocesan Deputy Derek Rabey.
The donation was arranged by St. Mark the Evangelist Council 7613 in San Antonio, alongside the fundraising efforts of Poth Coun-
cil 2618, New Braunfels Council 4183, St. Josephs at Honey Creek Council 8521 and St. Rose of Lima Council 11599. Meanwhile,
encouraged by this program, A Womans Haven raised the money to purchase a Save the Storks mobile ultrasound van.
Eddie Perez, president of A Womans Haven and member of Council 8521 in Bulverde, said, Because of this mobile pregnancy
center, we anticipate that the number of women we serve will grow to approximately 2,000 on a yearly basis.
Darlene Balenger, a nurse practitioner at A Womans Haven, told Mr. Anderson that the new machine has already saved a life.
She told me that the first pregnant woman to use the machine had said her mind was made up she was going to have an abor-
tion, Supreme Knight Anderson related. But then she had the ultrasound, and as she watched the screen, she looked up at the
nurse and said, Im going to keep my baby.
Since 2009, state and local councils have teamed up with the Supreme Council for the Orders Ultrasound Initiative, funding more
than 760 ultrasound machines for pro-life pregnancy care centers throughout all 50 states, Canada, Guatemala, Jamaica and Peru.
Recently, the Supreme Council also began offering funding for ultrasound machines used in mobile medical units.
The supreme knight expressed hope that the ultrasound machines will help pregnant women decide to keep their babies. We con-
servatively estimate that these machines will save the lives of at least 100,000 unborn children this year alone. And these machines
will go on saving lives for years to come, he said.
A Womans Haven has been serving women experiencing crisis pregnancies since 2007. The agency is a 501c non-profit organiza-
tion that will serve anyone regardless of their age, race, citizenship status or religion. To learn more about A Womans Haven,

initiative and other pro-life causes, visit kofc.org/prolife.

District Deputys Message

Brothers and Sisters,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful and Blessed Easter, but now that Easter is over we may ask ourselves what is there
to do now? In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus instructed his followers to make disciples of all Nations. As Catholics, we are called to
evangelize and invite people into our Faith. Or at the very least invite those that we know who are Catholics and no longer attend
Mass to come back to the Church.
As knights of Columbus, we are also called to invite those men that we know who are Catholic to join us as Brother Knights.
What better time to do this then now. Now while we are full of the Spirit of our Risen Lord. Following the Resurrection, the disciples
of Jesus took steps to grow the movement by their willingness to answer the skepticism of their critics, break bread with strangers
and take care of the sick. We as Knights also need to do the same thing. We can answer the skepticism of our critics by fulfilling our
Oaths to keep Charity, Unity and Fraternity at the forefront of our acts. We can invite those in our Parishes to break bread with us by
holding functions at the Church like pancake or bagel breakfasts or hosting Church BBQs or Picnics, and we can take care of the
sick in our communities by offering aid or volunteering at our local nursing homes or Hospitals, holding Blood Drives or any numbers
of ways. We need to lead by Christs example. We need to show the people in our Parishes who WE are, and by our example we will
convince them to want to join us.
By the time that you all read this we will have elected new State Officers for the New York State Council. The elections are con-
ducted at our State Convention being held at the Villa Roma Resort April 27th- 29th. I will be attending the Convention and will give
you a detailed report in my next message.

On May 22nd there will be an Admission (1st) Degree held at Patchogue Council at 8 pm. All Brother Knights are encouraged
to attend. I will see you all in May,

Vivat Jesus

I wish our priests would say, Let all of us spend 5

The Corner of Faith minutes in silence talking to God with the things we need to
speak to Him about. If you were able to see Him alive and in-
person, would you not like to speak to Him more than 5 minutes?
Last month, we were reminded that the Holy Spirit re-
My Brothers in Christ, please try to spend more time
sides with us 24 hours a day for all eternity. He only leaves us
with Him, when we receive Him in Holy Communion.
when we commit a mortal sin. After we make a good confession
He comes back to our souls again. Vivat Jesus,
Jesus comes to us only by receiving Holy Eucharist at Richard Olivea, PGK, FDD
Mass. No one really knows how long He stays with us after we
receive the Holy Eucharist. Receiving Christ through the Holy
Eucharist is so magnificent, so precious a gift, that is given to us,
that we really can not comprehend how valuable this is for our Charity Unity Fraternity Patriotism
souls.
Sadly, many good Catholics can not wait to leave the
Mass, as soon as they receive Holy Communion. Many only
spend less than a minute with Him.

KofC Benefits & Insurance

Don't Assume You Can't Afford Disability Income Insurance

One of the biggest mistakes you can make regarding disability insurance is to assume you can't afford it or you won't qualify. Be-
fore you make that assumption, do some basic research and apply for coverage through the Knights of Columbus. The Orders
Income Armor product gives you options that can help you fit this critical protection into your risk management budget.
Here are two ways you can reduce your premium:

1. Choose a two-year or five-year maximum benefit period.

Depending on your age, the best option is probably a policy that pays benefits until you reach age 67. But a two-year or five-year
duration benefit period would cover disabilities you might encounter in your working life.

2. Choose a longer elimination period.

An elimination period is the number of days a total disability must exist before benefits begin to accrue. Typical elimination periods
are 30, 90, or 180 days. Choosing a longer elimination period lowers the policys premium. But be sure you have enough set aside
in your contingency fund to account for the longer gap.

As your professional insurance agent, risk management is my specialty. Lets talk about how to protect your in-
come, your retirement needs, and your family's financial future.
