Dear Parents, Carers and Friends

I hope you all had a pleasant and relaxing holiday and have been able to spend some family time together.

Andover Inspection
The staff have been very busy preparing for our imminent visit from the Inspection Team and I am confident
they will find much good practice at Andover. I am sure I can count on you to ensure your children are looking
especially smart and have all their correct equipment during the week beginning 9th May 2011.
If you have not sent off your HMie questionnaire please do so. Some of you may be contacted by the team prior
to their visit. During their visit, members of the team will visit classes, work with groups of children and our
various committees, e.g. Pupil Council, Eco Group etc. They will of course speak with all members of staff and
review our paperwork.

Head Teacher’s Surgery

Some time ago, I set time aside on a Monday afternoon to meet with any parents and carers who had questions or
issues they wanted to discuss. I propose to do this again and will be happy to meet with you to talk about
homework, helping with reading, the new curriculum, playground etc.
If you wish to meet with me or another member of the Management Team, please call Mrs Morrow at the office
to make an appointment. You may wish to come with a relative or friend and this is perfectly acceptable.

Physical Education
Now that the better weather is here, all classes will be having some PE time outside even if it is a bit cool. You
may wish to provide your child with some leggings/tracksuit for this. PE kit should remain in school at all times.
Earrings should be left at home on PE days if possible. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Contexts for Summer Term

Each class will be undertaking much of their learning through a context this term. As usual, any
artifacts, books or information that you can provide will be gratefully received.

Children for whom a note is not received will have an unauthorised absence marked on the register.

Challenge for the Month—April

The Challenge for the Month, initiated last year, has become a quarterly
challenge, however, feedback has been positive so I intend to keep this going. In all
that we do at Andover, we endeavour to ensure our pupils become:
Successful Learners
Confident Individuals
Responsible Citizens
Effective Contributors

Please chat through the pupil challenge with your children. Some of the things will
be what you do anyway but some may be new. Do have a go!

Pupil Achievements
You will recall from my last newsletter that in line with Curriculum for Excellence, we are trying to promote
pupils’ wider achievements. From speaking with groups of children, I am aware many are fortunate to take part
in a range of activities outwith school but to date very few photos or certificates have been forthcoming for our
achievements board.

On Thursday, Matthew Neve (photographer) will be in school to take photos of children with their cups, tro-
phies, certificates or wearing appropriate kit, e.g. dance outfit. Two photographs will be taken; one for out
Achievements Wall and one for you as a momento.
Please complete the attached slip and return to school by Wednesday 20th April. This survey will also enable
us to target our school extra-curricular activities.

If you are able to help with any of our usual clubs or wish to offer a particular activity, please contact Mrs Mor-
row at the school office. Your support in completing this survey is much appreciated. All pupils should return a
form to school.

Thank you
