PRELIMINARY EVALUATION SHEET

Quality of Summary

Quality of holding a shot steady

My honest evaluationwhat was done well and what was not of good standard? Try to cite specific example and moments from your video 1) Between 00:01 and 00:03 the camera was shakey. 2) 2) Scene 1, between 00:05 and 00:13 the camera was shakey again whilst moving to keep the character in the shot.

Examples of strategies, good practices and skills that my group and I will put into place and develop to ensure a main production of high quality. 1)To overcome this we would need to use a camera mount. 2) This could be overcome by waiting till the character exists the short before the camera is moved, and also a lot of motivated cuts can be used in this position.

Quality of the framing of shots

- Some of the scene shots between 00:30 onwards dont add up, but mainly because we didnt get enough camera shots or different clips. - From 00:03 onwards the framing was perfect, particularly at 00:21 all characters fill up the frame and take-up a large percentage of the frame connotating to the audience that these are the main characters to look at. - However at 00:46 the person being interrogated needs to be better positioned in the frame so that the audience attention focuses on him.

We could take more shots, and look at them before we think weve finished. Also to make the actors film it more than once. - The framing problem can be overcome through better use of story boards.

Quality of shooting material appropriate to the task seti.e. the content of your film pre and post editing was consistent with the exam directives

Most of our film wasnt exact to the task set, we didnt film all of the right shots, mainly because we didnt have a sheet. For example at the beginning we didnt do the sign on the door, and we didnt do some of the correct shot angles at 00:30 onwards Quality of selecting mise-en- Our preliminary was done scne including colour, in a classroom although figure, lighting, objects and the bars at the front of the setting; down connate that the victim was trapped. The mise en scene showed part of the classroom which meant that some elements of suspense was lost.

We could have put someone in charge of the sheet, to follow it and see when we wasnt doing the right scene, and

In order to overcome these barriers in our actual media task we need to consider location shots and objects within the room. Simply clearing the room to create an empty space implying the there is no way out would improve the mise en scene including the colour and lighting. Furthermore around o.55seconds there was a burst of light on the left hand side of the frame this ruined the image portray on screen

Quality of editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer

Our editing was quite well, as we were able to make motivated cuts and match on action cuts so the plot was simple and easy to follow. We had a number of different shots including low angle, high angle and reverse shots. These shot improved continuity and made it easier for the viewer to understand the content.

Quality of using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set; Quality of group planning, meeting targets, organization

There was wind in the background which moved/ changed the mise en scene.
Our planning consisted of creating a script and angles of shots that are needed. Although this was done well and to a good standard meeting the deadline of shooting each bit was difficult as we had a change f location half why through making our preliminary which meant that we had continuity errors so we had to start all over again. This meant that our deadlines were late but we met our targets.

However because of the way it was filmed some of our shots the edits did not follow each other, and some did not follow through from the previous one. We could of made the film smoother and flow better and use transitions to enable our film to look better. However our group feels that we did a reasonable job considering the amount of time we had. Over come by doing test shots

Group dynamics i.e. how did your group work together

Our group worked well together however their were elements when members of the group did not do their job one of which was creating the story board. Due to exams and other work related commitments she was unable to create a story board which led to us not knowing the framing of each particular shot and the characters did not know the positions they were suppose to be in. An example of this is at 0.30 seconds A close up of the women in control would of created a lot more suspense and you of been a motivating cut from the victim walking in. It also did not work well as the cut jumps from one thing to another and there was no match on action. In addition to this members of the group, took longer to do their assigned task which made the group become behind on our deadlines also members of the group did not enjoy their role thus creating tension between the group resulting in arguments.

Next time in order to prevent the group from becoming behind I think that we should create a schedule that has dates of deadlines, the task they have to complete, and the group member that has to complete it. Another strategy that I think we should implement is planning and deciding on the roles that everyone enjoys and feels comfortable they will do well this may prevent arguments from occurring within the group. Furthermore I think that as a group we need to have an appropriate number of skills such as Editing, organisation, knowledge of camera angles, framing ect.
