The document provides a review of a preliminary task completed by Elise Thompson and her group which involved filming a sequence of a protagonist having a conversation in a room. Elise acted as the camerawoman, Chloe as the editor, and Paige as the director. The task helped the group establish roles and learn to use the equipment. While they attempted different techniques, the group realized they could improve their organization, setup, and editing to properly cut out mistakes for their final production.

The task: For our preliminary task, my group (Paige Edwards and Chloe Lashley) all worked to produce a brief sequence in which our protagonist walks into a room, sits and holds a short conversation with another individual then either leaves the room. Within this task we had to display the use of different editing techniques these included: match on action, shot-reverse-shot and the 180 degree rule. Roles within group: Elise Thompson- Camerawoman Chloe Lashley- Editor Paige Edwards- Director What went well?: The preliminary task helped us as a group as it allowed us, as a group to establish roles within our group. It also was helpful in that it allowed all members to train with the equipment and their individual contribution to the production, meaning by the time it comes to filming our actual opening sequence we will have developed a better understanding and improved our skills with the equipment. We tried our best to strictly follow the 180 degree rule and even tried to incorporate different techniques we had not previously used and not mentioned in the specification before such as the focus pull What could have been improved? I think as a group we could have been more organised as to setting up the location and equipment when it came to filming, we had trouble finding a location which wasted a lot of time also we had some trouble setting up the camera quickly. The major problem we experienced was prior to our production when we realised that we did not edit the last segment of our production properly meaning the directors dialogue and a blooper was within our sequence. If we had more time: Because we struggle to get match on action and continuity it would have been good if we could have repeated either the task or a few of the scenes in order to improve our production however we had a deadline to meet and also we are hoping that we will be able to learn from our mistake and each individually see our improvement in our final production.
