The SLAAP plate can withstand an impact from a 7.62 x 39 caliber, 123 gr. FMJ with mild steel core penetrator shot at muzzle velocity of 2,400 (+ 50) fps at 0 obliquity, with less than 25.4 mm (1 in) of backface deformation SLAAP Plates come in two sizes: Large (1.0 lbs) and Small (.85 lbs) The operator only needs to sustain the additional weight for short periods of time in circumstances of imminent enemy contact (This distinct design feature increases combat mobility and awareness and decreases fatigue) The SLAAP plate is made of a durable material so it can be stowed in operational kit without the concern of damaging it The SLAAP Plate is speci cally designed to t the range of Ops-Core helmets, ballistic performance is not guaranteed on other helmet geometries

There are other helmets on the market that claim protection from ri e rounds, but the SLAAP plate is the only product available that can stop the 7.62x39 with a backface deformation under one inch. Stopping a round from penetration is not enough to mitigate injury -- the round must be stopped in short enough distance to prevent fracturing the skull. Although the SLAAP plate was designed to meet a requirement to stop a single 7.62x39 impact, it was tested with no less than three impacts on one SLAAP plate. As shown in the chart below, there were zero penetrations and zero backface deformation measurements above 25.4 mm out of twelve impacts. The SLAAP plate was tested on two FAST helmets made out of HB26 and two made out of HB80. The estimated market price of the SLAAP Plate is $775 and is only being built in very small quantities; we expect the SLAAP plate to be in full production in Q2 2012.

The FAST SLAAP plate is only available on the Ops-Core helmet line and will not properly t other helmet geometries ballistic performance may suffer if used with any other helmet and is not recommended by Ops-Core Inc.
