POSITIONS ANNOUNCEMENT

Jhpiego, an internationally recognized non-profit, non-governmental organization involved in improving the health of women and
families throughout the world is seeking applications for multiple positions to be based in Dar es Salaam. Jhpiego is a pioneer in
the area of maternal and neonatal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS, community mobilization and innovative approaches to
training and development of healthcare workers. Unless otherwise noted, all positions require fluency in both English and
Kiswahili and computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and accessing internet. Tanzania nationals preferred.

INFECTION PREVENTION ADVISOR


• Qualification as a midwife required; advanced degree desirable
• At least 5 years work experience in reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programs with progressively increasing
responsibilities
• In-depth understanding of current international evidenced-based HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and infection
prevention best practices
• Prior training experience; excellent classroom and clinical training skills including participatory and experiential
learning methods
• Knowledge of quality improvement approaches, strategic planning, training program development, implementation,
management and monitoring and evaluation
• Demonstrated experience in maintaining partner relationships
• Availability and willingness to travel up to 40% time

MIDWIFERY ADVISOR, ZANZIBAR


• Qualification as a midwife required; advanced degree desirable
• At least 7 years work experience in reproductive and maternal and child health programs with progressively increasing
responsibilities
• Prior training experience; excellent classroom and clinical training skills including participatory and experiential
learning methods
• Knowledge of strategic planning, training program development, implementation, management and monitoring and
evaluation
• Current knowledge in the field of maternal and child health, including infection prevention, antenatal care, family
planning, PMTCT of HIV, essential and emergency maternal and newborn care, etc.
• This position is based in Zanzibar
• Availability and willingness to travel up to 40% time

MALE CIRCUMCISION ADVISOR


Specific qualifications:
• Medical degree required
• At least 5 years work experience in reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programs with progressively increasing
responsibilities
• In-depth understanding of current international evidenced-based HIV/AIDS and reproductive health best practices
• Knowledge of and experience in provision of male circumcision services preferred
• Prior training experience; excellent classroom and clinical training skills including participatory and experiential
learning methods; strong skills in clinical coaching and curriculum design
• Knowledge of strategic planning, training program development, implementation, management and monitoring and
evaluation
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills in English and Kiswahili
• Excellent advocacy, systems management and organizational skills

KANGAROO MOTHER CARE (KMC) COORDINATOR


Specific qualifications:
• A senior nurse-midwife
• Based in Dar es Salaam with frequent travel to the field at least 50% of the time
• At least 3 year’s project management experience (ideally in an international NGO or similar organization)
• Proven experience in the field of district health programmes with a particular focus on the newborn
• Proven experience of supervision of health facilities including training assessment skills
• Experience of building capacity of the Ministry of Health
• Experience of designing and running training and good facilitation skills
• Strong project/work planning, coordination and organization skills.

• Good IT skills and ability to use word processing and excel packages
• Excellent level of spoken and written English and Swahili and report writing skills.

• Knowledge of data analysis and different analysis software
• Report writing / publication skills
• Experience with IRB process

MONITORING, EVALUATION AND RESEARCH CONSULTANTS (Various short-term positions)


Specific qualifications:
• Extensive experience with developing research protocols
• Extensive experience in data collection, processing, analysis
• Skills in different research / evaluation methodologies, quantitative and qualitative
• Demonstrated track record in providing on-time, high quality reports (including peer-reviewed publications)

FIELD RESEARCH DIRECTOR


• PhD in public health or Master’s degree with 10+ years of field experience
• Leadership / management experience in directing multi-year research studies
• Knowledge of epidemiology and varying research designs
• Proven track record in ensuring quality of data collection and storage
• Report writing / publication skills
• Experience with IRB process and monitoring of human subjects compliance
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili
• This is a field-based position in Songea, Ruvuma region
• Availability and willingness to travel within rural districts up to 40% time

DISTRICT RESEARCH COORDINATORS - Qualitative (2 positions)


• Masters in social science or public health with 3+ years of research experience
• Extensive experience in qualitative methods of research including interviewing, leading focus group discussions,
participatory research and economic evaluation
• Proven record in ensuring quality of textual data
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and willingness to work closely with community leaders
• Demonstrated capacity to provide on-time, high quality reports
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili
• This is a field-based position in a rural district of Ruvuma region
• Availability and willingness to travel within rural districts up to 40% time

DISTRICT RESEARCH COORDINATORS - Clinical (2 positions)


• MBBS and Masters in public health with 3+ years clinical experience and at least 1 year research experience
• Experience in conducting household and health facility surveys; experience with studies on child mortality or economic
evaluations an asset
• Proven record in ensuring quality of survey data
• Excellent interpersonal communication and management skills
• Demonstrated capacity to provide on-time, high quality reports
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili
• This is a field-based position in a rural district of Ruvuma region
