Basalt Tiles

Basalt is an igneous rock, which is formed when tectonic plates move apart and cause a partial melting of the mantle. Basaltic molten rock (magma) settles, soldifies and cools at or near to the surface. Applications As a stone tile, this is becoming very trendy in contemporary design with uniform grey, blue/grey and grey/green colours, which suit modern, minimalist design styles. Basalt is perfect for indoor or outdoor environments. Designers and architects are increasingly specifying Basalt due to its decorative appeal and the wide variety of finishes that can be achieved, enabling designers to make their mark on a project. Its hardness and strength make Basalt a great choice for domestic and commercial applications from patio areas to churches, office entrance lobbies and shopping malls. Appearance Basalt tiles cover a wide spectrum of grey colours from silver grey, deep blue/grey to charcoal and grey green. The surface finishes are normally honed or flamed but the Basalt tiles with gas bubble holes is best in a brushed finish. (Geologically, this is called Scoria)

Performance Basalt tiles are very strong high-density lava stone tiles that can be compared to granite in terms of its resistance to wear. Architects specify this product because of its exceptional physical characteristics and being one of the hardest natural stone materials and selected for its high performance, Basalt tiles can cope with an incredible variety of applications from backyard patios to churches, office entrances, shopping malls and chemical research laboratories. However, care is required if you use very dark, highly honed / polished finishes as they can be slightly affected by acid foodstuffs etc due to a small amount of calcium being contained in the stone - Often used in Heavy traffic / commercial applications
