Subject: Mechanical Vibration (ME-408) Name of Faculty: Er.Ajay Kumar M.M: 48 Sem: 8th Instruction to Candidates: 1) Section A &B Compulsory. 2) Attempt any Two questions from Section-C Section-A Q1) a) List the possible case of vibrations? b) What do you mean by resonance? c) Define the term natural frequency and phase difference d) What is the angle between inertia and spring force? e) What do you mean by fundamental mode of vibration? f) Explain the term vibration isolation. g) Define influence coefficient. h) Define continuous system. (2x8 = 16) Section -B Q2: A body is subjected to two harmonic motion given as x1 = 15 sin (wt+/6) and x2 = 8cos (wt+/3). What harmonic motion should be given to the body to bring it to equilibrium? Q3: A vibratory system in a vehicle is to be designed with the following parameters: K= 100 N/m, C= 2N.Sec/m, m=1kg. Calculate the decrease of amplitude from its starting value after 3 complete oscillation and (b) the frequency of oscillation. Section -C Q6: Determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the system as shown in Fig-2 Q7: Write the short notes on following: (a)Accelerometer (b)Vibrometer Q8: Derive the frequency equation of longitudinal vibration for a free beam with zero initial displacement. (8x2=16) Times: 2 Hour Q4: Determine the natural frequency of the mass m = 15kg as shown in Fig-1, assuming the the cords do not stretch and slide over the pulley rim. Assume that the pulley has no mass. Given K1= 8 x 103N/m, K2= 6 x 103N/m Q5: A vibrometer indicates 2 percent error in measurement and its natural frequency is 5 Hz. If the lowest frequency that can be measured is 40 Hz, find the value of damping factor. (4x4 =16)
