THERMODYNAMIC QUESTIONS 1.What is Energy and its source? Energy is the capacity to do work.

Any form of energy can be transformed into another form. 2.What do you mean intensive properties? An Intensive property is a physical property of a system that does not depend o the system size or the amount of material in the system. 3.What is heat transfer? The subject dealing with the rate at which the heat flow process occurs is called heat transfer. 4.What do you mean Extensive property? An Extensive property of a system does depend on the system size or the amount of material in the system. 5.Define Isolated system? Isolated systems can exchange neither energy nor matter with an outside system while they may be portions of larger systems, they do not communicate with the outside in any way. 6.Define First Law of Thermodynamics. Energy can be changed from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed. 7.A rigid tank contains a hot fluid that is cooled while stirred by a paddle wheel. Initially, the internal energy of the fluid is 800KJ. During the cooling process, the fluid losses 500KJ of heat, and the paddle wheel does 100KJ of work on the fluid. Determine the final internal energy of the fluid. U1=800KJ Win=100KJ U2=? Win-Qout=AU=U2-U1 100- 500 =U2-800 -400=U2-800 -400+800=U2 U2=400KJ
