Next week we will be reading Almost to Freedom by Vaunda Nelson. We have been learning about history and what life was like many years ago. I will also be sending home a sheet with questions on it, as they read this book they will need to answer the questions. To complete this reading on time they will need to read a minimum of 6 pages a night. The questions will be due on February 12, 2013.

Next week will be the beginning of our section on Fractions. We will work on Halves, thirds, and fourths, equal parts and simple fractions: what fraction does the shape show. For this lesson I will be using foam pie pieces to demonstrate how a fraction is a piece or multiple pieces of the whole.

-Spelling Next week we will be having a review test over spelling lists 18-23. We have now learned how to write in cursive so on the spelling test they will be asked to write the word in print as well as in cursive. Right now I will only grade the print. Also right now if they make an error in cursive I will correct it with no penalties, but in two weeks I will start grading them on their cursive writing. -Word Wall Words began, enough, took, might, against
