PROPOSAL INFORMATION Seminar Information General Topic: Nursing and Legal Education Seminar Title: Knowing Your Rights and Responsibilities in the Workplace: Before, During and After Employment Seminar Description: This seminar introduces rights and responsibilities of nurses in their chosen career. Date: September 30, 2013 Time: 2-4 pm Venue: ULS AVR Length of Time: 2 hours Seminar Rationale Expanding roles and responsibilities for nurses have resulted in even greater liability risks for nurses. We need current information on the laws governing the practice of nursing in the Philippines, and ways to protect ourselves from malpractice claims. Learning Objectives Upon completion of the seminar, the students will learn the following topics: Malpractice Lawsuits Nursing Practice Acts: scope of practice and duties Nursing Standards of Care Delegation and Supervision Issues Nursing Negligence Most Frequent Claims Against Nurses Risk Management: Root Causes of Errors, Preventing Errors, Avoiding Litigation Disciplinary Actions by the Board of Nurisng
