The Honorable David R. Obey, Chair

The Honorable Jerry Lewis, Ranking Member
Committee on Appropriations
H-218, The Capitol
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Chair Obey and Ranking Member Lewis:

I am requesting funding for Emergency Response and Health Investigations for

Endangered and Threatened Pinniped Populations in the Pacific in fiscal year 2010. The
entity to receive funding for this project is Marine Mammal Center, located at 2000
Bunker Road, Fort Cronkhite, Sausalito, CA 94965. The funding would be used for
expanding the Marine Mammal Center's ability to perform necessary health
investigations, provide captive care, and train marine mammal professionals and
volunteers to rescue and treat northern and Guadalupe fur seals, Steller sea lions, and
Hawaiian monk seal pups - populations that are in sharp decline and that are stranding at
increasing rates along the coasts of California, Pacific Northwest, Alaska and Hawaii. I
certify that I have no financial interest in this project.

Sincerely,

<li'O.-...u)~

Member of Congress
