A merican Symbols This week, we continue our study of American symbols by completing our American Flag facts writing project as well as an American Flag art project. We will also brainstorm things we would do if we were president, write about it, and attach it to a White House pop up project! We are anxious to hear about all the ways our students would like to change the world. Life Long A go Coming soon, we begin our Life Long Ago unit. Students will travel back in time to experience a bit of what life was like for travel, school, home, and food! R eading G roups In our reading groups class this week, we will continue our character study by doing some character comparisons and learning how to fill in a Venn Diagram. We will also be teaching students how to use context clues to make an educated guess about the meaning of unknown words. Next week we will not have reading groups due to first trimester assessments. W riting Our major writing projects over the next two weeks will be about our thematic studies. Students will be learning about an editing checklist and how to edit their own writing for conventions errors. Field Trip Tuesday October 15th is our field trip to the Railroad Museum and Old Sac to correlate with our Life Long Ago unit. Please dont forget to send your child to school that day with comfortable walking shoes and a lunch (unless you asked for a sack lunch from the cafeteria). A ssessments It is critical that your child be at school during assessments. We begin assessing students the week of October 21st. When students miss school, it is hard to make up all of the assessments we do as we have a very tight schedule. Please keep your child home if he/she is sick, but otherwise please make every effort to have your child in school, on time, every day. Thank you for your support!
