Press Statement of Extraordinary Meeting of Central Committee

''We must resolutely prepare ourselves to confront and overcome the challenges ahead''

The extraordinary meeting of Central Committee of Democratic Party for a New Society
(DPNS) was held on the Thai-Burmese border from 20 to 24 July 2009. At the meeting, the
participants analysed the current political developments and approved the reports on
political situation and party activities presented by the Central Executive Committee.

The meeting adopted the Party Workplan which includes preparation for mass movements
against the 2008 Constitution and party building in order to double efforts to reach the
party's political and organizational objectives with specific time frame for activities pre and
post 2010 elections.

Party Chair Aung Moe Zaw said, in regard to holding the extraordinary meeting, "It is
essential that the members of our party meet face to face to brainstorm our coordinated
responses to the present political situation and to devise our plans to address the various
possible scenarios and the challenges ahead”. He continued by saying that under the current
circumstances, our struggle would be hard unless we were decisive and prepared. It is, he
said, urgent and imperative that the party is resolute and acts as a whole to confront and
overcome the future challenges.

In addition, the meeting further developed the party's political views and programmes as well
as the party constitution. At the end of the meeting, the Central Leading Committee was
formed as follows:
