MODULE-28A
Displacements in statically determinate structures and analysis of statically indeterminate structures by force

In the force method of analysis, primary unknowns are forces. In this method compatibility equations are written for displacement and rotations. Solving these equations, redundant forces are calculated, redundant forces are calculated, and the remaining reactions are evaluated by equations of equilibrium. Step: 1 Determine the degree of statically indeterminacy of the structure. Identify the redundant that would be treated as unknowns in the analysis. Now, release the redundant one by one so that a statically determinate structure is obtained. Step: 2 Calculate deflection corresponding to unknown redundant action in terms of unknown and deflection due to external loads. Step: 3 Add deflection due to external loads and due to redundant and equate to the boundary conditions, gives the redundant force. Step: 4 By using equilibrium equation calculate all other forces.
