Who is a Network Administrator?


A network administrator plans/designs, establishes, maintains and supports the use of LAN, WAN and related software and hardware in organizations to improve their effeciency.

Role of a Network Administrator


Network admins play a critical role in the information technology structure of an organization. Without proper management by a network admin, companies would become vulnerable to security risks on a disorganized network, have no email support and lack a reliable connection.

Network admins are able to manage two main types of networks: WANs (Wide Area Networks) and LANs (Local Area Networks). Generally, the larger the network the more help the network admin will have to manage it. Network admins also manage both wireless and wired components of the network, as well as any hardware and software required.

Salary
The salary of a network admin can range from US$62,750 - US$93,250. However, in Jamaica, on average, salaries begin at $1.4 million.
