Learning Activity #1: The students will listen to the book My Moccasins Review FNMI and how First Nations Metis and Inuit !eo!le "ake "occasins using raw hide #ro" a bu##alo #or war" clothing and #ootwear$ %iscuss the signi#icance o# bead work and !atterns to "ake the "occasins beauti#ul and uni&ue #or each !erson Review A' and A'( )atterns %o a de"onstration on the s"artboard Ask #or two student volunteers to co"e u! and create a !attern *how the "occasins the students will create First the students will write their na"e on their !a!er The students will then choose a !attern to create and create that !attern on the outside o# each "occasin using crayons$ They "ay use sha!es to create the !attern using di##erent colors$ A#ter the students have created their !attern on the "occasins they will bead two !i!e cleaners and re!licate the sa"e !attern using beads$ +nce the !i!e cleaners are co"!lete with the students !attern they will wra! the !i!e cleaner around the to! o# the "occasin and take the e,cess !i!e cleaner to the back$ 'oth "occasins will then be glued to the !a!er that has their na"e !rinted on it$ *tudents will !lace their "occasins in their "ailbo, and choose a book to read &uietly on the car!et until the entire class is ready to "ove on$
