Description: Date:

An insperational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 06 Julie Peterson
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography.
Process:
I began by adding in my first image (landscape) to a 8.5 by 11 Photoshop document. I then added my second image (Mandela). I made the second image larger so that only his head and shoulders were in the frame. I created a mask layer on the second image then used the brush tool to make the mask hide the background of the second image. I gradually blended Mandela into the first image. I then used the brush to add back in some detail to Mandela. I then merged the two layers. I adjusted the levels and added a blue photo filter. I then added a palette knife filter. I added text and made the key words 24 pt. and changed the font to a script. I aligned the text to create proximity between the body text lines

Objectives: Process:
Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator.
I started out this project by finding a random name through a name generating website. I then took that name and decided that I must use the color blue in it. I really like the brightness and contrast that comes from blue and black so I decided to make that the basis of my logo. I started out with a rectangle for the first one and then used the pen tool to add some points and make it more curved. I then used the brush tool to add a squiggle and then I chose to add my title to it. On all three I used two different fonts in my logo to create contrast. The second logo I also used the shape tool/elipsis tool and then the brush tool to add a random design. I made the initials in the middle without a fill and then added the same company name to the side. With the third logo, I decided to create a repeating element of ovals. I colored each one slightly lighter for a gradual blend effect and then I added blue to the last one for contrast.

Objectives: Process:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
I started this process by creating a logo for the company in Illustrator using simple shapes and brush strokes. I used the same red/maroon color with the opacity lowered to create the continents of the world behind the text. I put that logo into a letterhead document. I used two contrasting fonts: one with serifs and one without. I then used the same colors in the letterhead but just a little lighter. I took the text off the logo, made it larger, and lowered the opacity to 15% to create a watermark. I copied and pasted the contact information from the business card to keep the design consistent.

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.
Process:
I started out by finding photos of Hungary to use in my brochure. I also researched the activities/events/culture and wrote my body copy for the brochure. I then created a 5.5 by 8.5 in, two-page document in InDesign. I then created guidelines about 2.25 in on both sides. I put in my photo of the Parliament Building on both sides of the document on the smaller edges. I made it so that they would match up when they came together. I also made it so that my title (created with rectangles and text) was cut in half so that I could put it on either side. I used the eyedropper to get a reddish color from the building and used it as my background for the back. I then created the inside using the same layout. I added photos and

Objectives:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.
Process:
After receiving the information regarding this project, I started my process with some general layout sketches. I created four and chose the best one. I then took this sketch into InDesign, changed a few things, and created a rough draft. I added in some dots using the ellipse tool and some rectangles using the rectangle tool. I then went through a peer review process and changed some things regarding alignment, proximity, and repetition. I added some more dots to repeat the pattern as well as the repetitive rectangle at the bottom.

Process:
I scanned in the photo of the little girl walking on the beach. I then added it to my Word document and added some boxes. I colored these boxes using swatches from the photo. I repeated the yellow throughout the flier to draw attention and create repetition and flow. I added some purple for its complimentary qualities and aligned my text to the left.

Process:
I created this webpage using Adobe Dreamweaver. Web Design and Development is my major so I was familiar with HTML and CSS. Using the text given me, I added <p> tags and <h1> and so forth to create the basic structure of my webpage. I created a background of dots in photoshop to go over the plain background of the page. I also took colors from my logo to create a flow and repetition to the page. I used padding for the logo so that it would be positioned the way I wanted it to be. I also changed the size of the body (height/ width) so that it would fit in a 8.5 by 11 page. This was a little tricky but I got it to work.

Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.
Process:
I took this picture using a Canon PowerShot camera. I then put it into Photoshop and cropped it to a 66 square. I then selected and separated the sky from the rest of the photo. I colorized the sky a little more using a photo filter. I then used the accented edges filter to sharpen and darken the lines. I then desaturated the trees, building, and flag pole. Finally, I used a mask to get some color back into the little holes around the branches.
