Alexandria Fern Time sample observation

I chose these children based on the fact that all three had very different play patterns and social patterns. I started to observe them at their normal drop off times. The times cover the play times before and after breakfast and during their outdoor time. The first child MU is 2. years old. MU began the morning by observing the other children sitting do!n playing !ith the car toys. "he decided she didn#t !ant to do this and !ent to books instead. $e let the children read books !henever they like. After breakfast !hen the children !ere then playing !ith the flo!er shop box she again !ent to books a!ay from the other children. "he sat %uietly reading her book ignoring the other children. &uring 'urriculum play time at ()2* !hen !e !ere stomping on bubble !rap MU decided to sit do!n and pop the bubbles individually. &uring outside time at +,),, she played !ith the other children and took turns going do!n the slide. MU is a solitary child. "he usually plays by herself but does not necessarily isolate herself. $hen another child -oins her she ackno!ledges them and continues !hat she is doing. If the activity is art involved she plays associatively. The second child .A is 2.2 years old. .A !as an onlooker throughout the morning play. /e stayed back and !atched the children play !ith blocks. To!ards the end of playtime !hen the children !ere playing !ith the animals .A took a giraffe and started playing !ith it on the table. $hen !e !ent outside her played along !ith everyone else on the playground. .A has extreme separation anxiety !ith his mother. /e takes a long time to recuperate after she leaves and tends to !ant to be left alone but he is interested in !hat the other children are doing. .y the time !e go outside he is a happy boy and loves playing along !ith his friends. The third child0 1&0 is 2.2 years old. 1& is one of the first children at the center in the morning. /e plays alone until some of the younger boys sho! up around 3)2,. $hen they come he plays !ith them very !ell and along !ith them. $hen !e go to our room at 4) , he usually plays !ith the toys off by himself until a certain boy sho!s up then plays + on + !ith him. 1& is a very socialable child but has his preferences !ith !hat children he !ill play !ith. $hen his favorites don#t come or are late he !ill pout and play by himself usually.
