For four years now !a"e #layed trum#et in t!e Jazz Band and for two of t!ose years !a"e $een t!e section leader% &s in any ot!er team' we !a"e to !el# eac! ot!er $ecome t!e $est #layer t!at we can% n order to do t!is you need to $e a$le to take ad"ice in order to $etter yourself and you #layin( a$ility% &s a leader you also need to $e a$le to articulate your ideas in a #ositi"e sense and to !el# ot!ers $y (i"in( ad"ice and instruction% n Jazz $and' we will often $reak off in sectionals% T!is is w!en one section' for e)am#le t!e trum#et section' will (o off somew!ere and will #ractice as a (rou# on #arts t!at t!ey are !a"in( #ro$lems #layin(% &s a section leader it is my res#onsi$ility to run t!e sectional% T!is includes !el#in( wit! tec!nical t!in(s and r!yt!ms% n t!is settin( it is im#ortant to TC105: Express ones point of view in a teamwork setting. t is my *o$ to (i"e t!e $est ad"ice can on !ow to sol"e t!e #ro$lems% !a"e to $e clear and concise' and also do it in a way as to not $e rude% t !as to $e !el#ful criticism t!at will !el# t!e entire +team,% Bein( a$le to s#eak u# as a mem$er of a team is "ery im#ortant% n a #rofessional sense' will need t!is skill as a c!emist% will need to s#eak u# and (i"e my "iew on !ow to do somet!in( or !ow to sol"e a certain #ro$lem% f no one can s#eak u# and (i"e t!eir "iews' we will ne"er (et anyw!ere% T!at is w!y t!is skill is so im#ortant on a #rofessional le"el% t is also im#ortant in your #ersonal life outside of work% T!rou(!out a lifetime you will $e a #art of many teams% -it!out e"eryone.s t!ou(!ts $ein( !eard and considered' #ro(ress will $e minimal% For e)am#le' if you are on a $oard or committee tryin( to #ass somet!in( w!ere t!ere is a stalemate' if no one offers u# t!eir o#inion' no com#romise will $e met% Before was a section leader it was my *o$ to take ad"ice and use it #ositi"ely% f was !a"in( #ro$lems wit! a certain #assa(e' my section leader would !el# me out $y s!owin( me !ow' and (i"in( me some tec!ni/ue ad"ice to !el# (et around some #ro$lems in t!e music% would t!en tell w!et!er t!at !el#ed any' and if not' we would *ust find a different solution% T!is is an e)am#le of TC106: Giving and accepting feedback in a positive way. T!is skill is "ery im#ortant in t!is conte)t and in many ot!ers% n my *o$ settin( will need to $e ca#a$le of (i"in( and acce#tin( feed$ack% will !a"e to s!are my t!ou(!ts wit! my #eers and take ad"ice from ot!er #eo#le% t will $e necessary to !el# on ot!er #ro$lems in order to !el# sol"e mine% &ll of t!is re/uires teamwork and communication% -it!out it' not!in( will $e done%
