Budimir Markovic MGMT 3050 Professor Cady 15 January 2014 MGMT 3050 Class Introduction 1. Who am I? What is my major? Why do I choose to stay in my major? My name is Budimir Markovic. I am currently a 3rd year junior majoring in Sport Management with a minor in Business. I am in my major and wish to graduate in my major because Id someday like to obtain a Masters degree in Communications or Broadcasting to be able to someday work in radio or television. I choose to stay in my major because I feel like the experience I get through my major will allow me to get a better understanding of the sports industry that will help me later on in life and pursuing a career in broadcasting. 2. My dream job to have in the next year or two is... and this is why? I dont think I really have a dream job for the next year or two. Id like to be able to work anywhere that I can sustain myself while I pursue a Masters in Communications or Broadcasting. My dream job someday is to someday work for ESPN/NBC Sports/Fox Soccer or any sports broadcasting affiliate that I could discuss my favorite sports; soccer, basketball, hockey or UFC/boxing. So in that regard, my dream job for the next year or two is something I could do that would help me towards reaching my dream career later in life. I want to work here because I discovered in college that I love to do voice acting

stuff for fun on the side, and have always had a passion for sports, and decided to combine by passion for both things into pursuing a career in it. 3. My ideal organization, where I would love to work is? I would like to work someday at ESPN, NBC Sports, Fox Soccer, BeIN Sport or any radio/television work that involves discussing sports. I specifically would like to work for Fox Soccer or BeIN Sport because my favorite sport is soccer. I think these organizations have a major influence in how I perceive not only the sports I watch, but the way its broadcasted and distributed. Some of my favorite commentators have influenced me in different ways I practice doing different voice acting stuff for fun, so I think thats why Id like to work for them someday. 4. As I look over the past year and consider my performance in school and my career, these are the things I am proud that I have accomplished... and how I was able to accomplish them... As I look over my performance in school and career, I think the most proud thing I was able to accomplish was being able to identify my dream. When I started college in 2011, I had started college without knowing what I wanted to do. At first I thought Id go for something that makes a lot of money, or is easy to get a job in. I then realized that this isnt what I want to pursue in my career. I had decided that I want to pursue a career that Ill love to do everyday, and that I wont be disappointed with. I decided that Id reach my dream career of sports broadcasting or journalism someday no matter how long it takes me. It wont happen over night, and its not going to be easy to get into the field, but Im willing to wait and pursue something that Id be happy doing. I thought Id be

able to accomplish narrowing down on my dream career by studying Sport Management and getting an understanding of the different areas of work within the field to get a better understanding of what the industry is like. 5. As I look over the past year and consider my performance in school and my career, these are the things that have been frustrating... and how they have impacted me at BGSU... ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I think the main things that have been frustrating to me werent the classes Ive had, but guring out what I wanted to do for a living that was frustrating. I was initially really nervous trying to gure out what I wanted to do once I graduated, being xated on the fact that I need to !pick a major that will land me a good paying job after college. I think deciding to pursue a career that I might not even start working in till later in !life will take a long time, but it has impacted me by giving me a new found drive to stay in school and to be able to pursue a career that I want to do, and has ultimately been the best decision Ive made since coming to BGSU. It has impacted me by inuencing how Ive gone about deciding what steps I should take once I graduate, and for my future as well.

6. If I had a magic wand and could change anything about my school and career, I would change... and this is how these changes would impact me positively... ! ! ! ! ! I would probably have done more to get involved my Freshman year. I didnt start volunteering or pursuing work regarding to my major until my Sophomore year, and didnt do much my Freshman year. I think getting involved Freshman year allows you to hit the ground running and get the most of your college experience, as opposed to what I did by not really getting involved until my Sophomore year.

7. As I consider my college experience thus far, these are the things that inspire me and help me to be successful? Here are some examples... and how they inspire me... ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I think the thing that inspires me to be successful are the people Ive met and the volunteering experience Ive had. Ive been able to meet multiple successful individuals within the sports industry, including the Ticketing Director for the Detroit Red Wings, and the Marketing Director for the Toledo Walleye. Both of their respective stories have similarly both told me that the industry is hard to break into, and that it takes a while, but if I stick to what Im doing and get experience that I will someday get a shot at my dream career. Being able to also volunteer with the NCAA Hockey Association in Toledo was also a great experience that gave me a feel for what its like working in the professional setting. Seeing how people have achieved doing similar things to what Ive done inspires me and drives me to keep pursuing my dream to someday do what I want to do, even if it might not happen right away once I graduate.

8. After reviewing the materials for this class, the top question(s) I have to help me have a great start are... and what I think the answer might be or why I don't have an answer... ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! What can I do to better myself? What is there to learn about management I havent heard about before? What kinds of things can and cannot be learned about management inside and outside the classroom? What experiences can I learn from Professor Cady throughout this semester that could inspire me? I think everyone has important experiences that they bring to the classroom when they teach others, so Im sure that throughout the semester Ill learn about some of those experiences, and will be able to relate them to my own and will be able to learn from them.
