So here I am at the end of my portfolio.

It seems like yesterday that I started on my BCIS and

now I am graduating with concentration in Software development and certificate of
communications. In this reflection, I hope to link life experiences to my fields of study that show
the integrated nature of my learning.  I will also attempt to show how I have adapted and
applied knowledge and skills to new situations. I was born and raised in India and my high
school education is from there only. I came here for my bachelor’s degree and I liked this
country a lot so I am planning to settle down here and find more opportunities. Coming to
Canada was one of my best and scary experience. I did my high school in India and after that I
took admission UFV India and I did one year of my degree over there. Studying abroad is a very
challenging thing for me. I am an international student. In the beginning, I felt lonely because of
different culture background and language. However, I made new friends and did some part-
time jobs. I am still working at Walmart as customer service representative. These really helped
me to adapt to this new environment in Canada.
I started my degree in 2015 and I took transfer to Canada in 2016. That one year gave me
experience how to live without parents because that campus was away from my home. I used
to go home after a month and study over there is a bit different but interesting as well. I tried
to show each and every experience that I gained from this degree.
Here comes the second phase of my life I came in Canada in 2016 and I was interested to learn
another language so I choose Spanish and took SPAN 101 as a elective in winter 2017. My main
motive for that course was to contribute regionally and globally. I can speak 3 language other
than that – English, Hindi, Punjabi. Another course that helped me in learning about leadership
was CIS 385. That course is all about project management and we learnt how to manage project
and how to take lead.
Moving on to my third phase of my life where I did electives which helped me a lot in getting
better. The electives I have completed not only helped me to get credit for that course but also
learning about communications, leadership , self motivation and how to use your skills
proficiently. I think that my choice of courses have been integral to helping teach me skills to
reach my goals and answer my questions. I choose 2 artifacts from CMNS 251 which helped me
in learning how to communicate effectively and how to demonstrate information competency.
Another thing that I learnt from UFV was Initiate inquiries and develop solutions to problems.
For ILO #4 I choose LAW305 assignment in which we tried to find a solution of a problem and
solved everything. This ILO helps me in my daily life also it’s not just about finding a solution to
a problem in a course but also find a solution of problems in your life.
For ILO #8 and ILO #9 those both were kind of same thing because I was in serving humanity
group when I was in India and I always used to do volunteer work and helped them in every
possible way. We had given project with a budget to help homeless people as much as we
could. As I was a part of serving humanity in India so I knew what are the best things which we
should give them. I didn’t just help them but I also feel kind and happy. I feel relax after helping
someone as someone is getting smile because of me.
As I am graduating this semester and I promise to take all the outcomes from this university and
use them in my future reference. I will always take care of institutional learning outcomes
which helped me in thinking and exploring what I actually did in my whole degree. I am
attaching visualizing of portfolio which helped me in thinking which step I should choose first to
achieve my goals. Life is also a journey in which we have to decide what are we going to do
next. I always make short term goal as well as long term goal. As reflection on ILO #6 which was
Pursue self-motivated and self-reflective learning I used Dean’s list as an artifact and which was
earned by my hard work. As I explained above I always set my goals and this was one of my best
goal which I achieved in my university. The next goal for me is to get good job in my computers
field.
All reflections will help instructor and parents to see what I have achieved and where my
degree can take me. It is not easy to make them believe by telling them. I did electives as well
as required courses for my degree. This will show my overall progress also. As I transition from
UFV, I see the importance of applying and integrating all that I have learned.  This portfolio has
allowed me to articulate my learning in a way that highlights the breadth of my learning
experiences and the value I place on them. I am excited to be graduating but a little uneasy of
where I will go next.  But I know I am prepared for anything.
