Unit 7 is the foundation for algebra, which students will take in their later years at EAC. They will be introduced to terms, patterns, and notations for different expressions, negative numbers, and exponents. They will also learn the order of operations for solving expressions. For more information check out the Everyday Math letter. We will continue with the flipped classroom. Students need to watch the lesson video at home and complete the quick check in order to be prepared for class the next day. If they cannot watch the video due to technical difficulty, they will be able to watch it during class.

This week we will start literature circles with the whole 5th grade. Groups will consist of students from 5A, 5B, and 5C. Students are responsible for completing their reading and role sheet before each meeting. In writing students will begin researching a famous inventor. Students will fill out a graphic organizer with information they find during their research. We will work on writing expository pieces at the conclusion of research.

Language arts:

The colony simulation will finish this week. After which, we will begin Science. The first unit in science is inventions. We will learn what inventions are, why people invent, and the impact on society. The culminating activity for this unit is the Invention Convention.

social studies/Science:

The colonies are claiming more land!

!Please make sure to check the class website under Information for Parents the schedule for Bake Sale is posted. !There is a parent meeting for the 5th grade field trip, NR, on Friday, January 31 at 10:00 The trip will take place February 17-19. If you cannot make the meeting please dont worry, I will send an email with the important information. ! 5A will be hosting the March Assembly on Monday, March 17th. The theme for the assembly is Be Wise, and we will be recognizing grandparents.
