Calculation of Pressures beyond the wellbore using the Eifunction solution

Problem. A well and reservoir have the following characteristics: The well is producing only oil; it is producing at a constant rate of 20 STB/D. Data describing the well and formation are:
=0.72 cp k = 0.1 md ct = 1.5 x 10-5 psi-1 pi = 3000 psi re = 3000 ft rw = 0.5 ft Bo = 1.475 RB/STB h = 150 ft = 0.23 s=0

Calculate the reservoir pressure at a radius of 1 ft after 3 hours of production; then, calculate the pressure at radii of 10 and 100 ft after 3 hours of production.

Check Ei applicability - line source not accurate until (lek note: Ei function can be used when t is greater than:- )
t > 3.79x10 k
5 2 c t r w

Time in hours

Check reservoir is infinite acting - the reservoir is infinite acting if the time,
(lek note: Ei function can be used when the t is less than:- )

948c t re2 t< k

Time in hours

First 2 tests show that Ei function can be used after some time (1st test), and after that as long As at that time the reservoir is still infinite acting

Check ln approximation to Ei function. We can approximate Ei function with ln approximation if

x < 0.01

Solution. The Ei function is not an accurate solution to flow equations until t>3.79 x 105 ctr2w/k 3.79 x 105 x 0.23 x 0.72 x 1.5 x 10-5 x 0.52 /0.1 = 2.35 < t = 3hrs t = 3 hrs > 2.35 (condition satisfied!) To check that reservoir is still infinite acting; the reservoir is infinite acting until t<948 ctr2e/k 948 x 0.23 x 0.72 x 1.5 x 10-5 x 30002 / 0.1 = 211, 935 hrs. t = 3 hrs < 211935 (reservoir is infinite acting)
