MOTIVATION
Lesser Output Power

Lesser Reliability
Not efficient enough Complexity More number of components, therefore expensive

APPLICATIONS OF INVERTERS
In Industries to run motors

Automobile Industry for hybrid cars

TYPES OF INVERTERS
1.)Traditional Inverters :
i) Voltage Source Inverter:
Source voltage is switched at regular intervals by varying pulse width to produce variable output voltage Six switches with an altogether 8 switching states

Limitations :
Limited output voltage External boost equipment required Possibility of short through Output LC filter required

ii) Current

Source Inverter :

Fed from a current source, has a large inductor attached in series Although same switches but 9 switching states

Output voltage greater than input

Limitations: Cannot be used as a buck inverter High Cost Poor Power factor Vulnerable to EMI noise & slow dynamic response
