As more and more people throw waste into the Earth, the by Joanna Asuelo constant worry of where will waste go is taking storm. Biodegradable bioplastic was created for exchange of more plastic. The term biodegradable means to break down into smaller compounds wth biological organisms. Made from compostable potato starch, soybean protein, celllose and other materials in exchange for petroleum based products. In order for a plastc to e compostale, it will need to: biodgrade, disintegrate, or eco-toxicity. However, they may take much longer than expected to biodegrade, and does not require any time limits for biodegrading. PROS CONS *Not made from petroleum *Compostable only in certain conditions *Made from corn, sugar cane, soybeans, etc. *Cannot be used in home composting *Most designs can be compostable systesm due to not being able to degrade *Certain limits and laws must be met to be compostable and degradable As seen from the chart above, the cons of biodegradble bioplastic outweighs the pros. There are specific conditions in order for the biodegradable bioplastic to to decompose. From various sources, the recommended products of choice should include the Compostable Logo. These will truly biodegrade and compost. For the future, many will have to revert to compostable products if the continuation of the careless waste is thrown. Overall just reuse, reduce, recycle, and compost.
