Lesson: The Rock Cycle Explained in Nature Grade Level: 6th Grade Subject: Science

Description of Learning Goals, Standards, Objectives


CC/GPS 1) S6E5: Students will investigate the scientific view of how the earths surface is formed. c) Classify rocks by their process of formation. d) Describe the processes that change rocks and the surface of the Earth. 1) Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. a) Plan strategies to guide inquiry b) Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media. 6) Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. a) Understand and use technology systems. b) Select and use applications effectively and productively. Students understand the different stages of the rock cycle and have learned how rocks transform into different rocks. Students will break into groups of two (their choosing) and will be given one laptop per group, as well as one worksheet per student. Using the laptop, and previous knowledge acquired during lecture, each group of students will visit the Digital Story page of the teachers Weebly site and watch the video embedded on the page, titled The Rock Cycle. Once students have finished watching The Rock Cycle video, each student will complete the Rock Cycle worksheet they obtained at the beginning of class, using the information provided in the video; this should be completed with 77% accuracy.
