Dear Applicant: Volunteerism plays a critical role in the Lemont community, and is the cornerstone of the Lemont Junior Womans Club. Our organization is comprised of women in the community who are dedicated to raising funds and volunteering for the betterment of Lemont and the surrounding communities. To recognize the efforts of those who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism, the LJWC is offering three $1,000.00 scholarships to Lemont residents who are high school seniors or adult women returning to school. The scholarship may be used for tuition, room and board, books, or other educational purposes. The winner will be selected based on his or her commitment to volunteerism, academic and extracurricular performance, and essay response. If you would like to apply, complete the appropriate application and answer the essay question. Essays should be typed, double-spaced, and no more than 500 words in length. In addition to the application and essay, please provide two letters of recommendation. These should be submitted in sealed envelopes, and mailed directly to the LJWC. Recommendations may come from a principal, school counselor, teacher, employer, or volunteer supervisor. References will be contacted, so please include phone numbers on the application. Applications should be mailed to Lemont Junior Womans Club P.O. Box 563, Lemont, IL 60439, and must be postmarked by April 25, 2014. Scholarship recipients will be notified in May, and the winning essays may be published in local media.
