LESSON GUIDE PLANNING FORM

NAME OF ACTIVITY: Nature Walk Age Group: Pre-school

Originating Idea: Seasons / Fall

Materials Needed: Paper lunch bag for each child (12) plus one for each staff member (2), marker

Curriculum Content: Arts and Sciences; Recognizing objects by sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell.

Beginning: At large group, teacher tells children that outside time will be a nature walk. Bags will be used to collect items.

Middle: Children collect items along walk and put them in their bag. Children explore the outside.

Extensions (Modifiers): Teacher explores with child by modeling collecting items for their own bag. Teacher asks open ended questions about items found.

End: Give children a verbal 5 minute warning that we will go back to classroom and explore findings.

Follow-up Ideas: Collage of findings, explore nature with magnifying glasses.
