MEMORANDUM

TO: Darby Hogan, President of CSCMP
FROM: Kevin Kowalski, Kelly Liszewski, Ann Palowitch, Briana Vincent
DATE: April 22nd, 2014
SUBJECT: CSCMP Corporate Sponsorship Packet

Enclosed is a report containing information on the corporate sponsorship packet, as
well as the final draft of the corporate sponsorship packet.

As requested by the Penn State Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals
(CSCMP), our team has compiled a corporate sponsorship packet for CSCMP to utilize
in the coming years. We would like to thank you for this opportunity. The corporate
sponsorship packet will be an amazing resource to the organization, reaping many
benefits such as recruitment and sponsorship.

We understand that CSCMP incurs many expenses in order to be successful. The
corporate packet will be a great tool to help alleviate those expenses, while providing
benefits for both corporations and the organization. During the next school year, as the
packet is implemented for the first time, we hope leaders of CSCMP will keep track of
the successfulness of the packet and make note of any changes to be made, whether in
its content or in its uses.

We would like to specifically thank Patrick Cines, the graphic designer for the packet.
With expertise and dedication, he made the packet visually appealing in order to spark
the interests of corporations, as well as contribute to the brand and reputation of
CSCMP.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to create this corporate sponsorship packet for
your organization. We are glad to be a part of helping the organization grow and build
relationships with corporations. If you have any questions regarding the report or the
corporate sponsorship packet, please feel free to contact any group member by email.

Executive Summary

The Penn State Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, or CSCMP,
currently has no formal way of soliciting donations from corporations. Though CSCMP
is in good financial standing, they do not have enough capital to send their members to
national conferences. CSCMP decided it would be beneficial to create a corporate
sponsorship packet. A corporate sponsorship packet will create a formal method of
solicitation and allow the organization to secure more funds in order to accomplish club
goals.

The packets strategy implements a tier system depending on the donation of the
sponsor. Each tier provides the corporation with different incentives, and the incentives
increase with the amount of donorship.

A graphic designer was contacted to create a visually appealing packet. Incorporating
triangular graphics in order to match the triangular CSCMP logo was the main
approach when constructing the packet layout

Each page was constructed purposefully to appeal to corporations who are looking to
have a significant impact at Penn State through CSCMP. Each page addresses a
different subject:

Front/Back Cover: Visually appealing and looks extremely professional

Introduction

This informative report will provide an account of the need for a corporate packet, and
how the resulting packet solves CSCMPs funding issue. Defined as a need by CSCMP,
the packet will serve to gain financial resources through corporate sponsorship. The
creation of this packet has been approved by the leadership of CSCMP, and it will be
presented and utilized by the group.

Currently, CSCMP only has a few corporate sponsors, and therefore are not receiving
the funding that they need to effectively run the organization. CSCMP is looking to
receive around $8,000 a year to cover its financial needs. This is achievable through the
utilization of a corporate packet. The organization will benefit with its relationship
with a sponsoring company, as will the company itself, with recruiting benefits and an
accessible resume booklet.

In this report, you will find a page-by-page breakdown explaining the urgent need for
each page. A detailed description of the research conducted is included, and
connections between the research and the final deliverable are presented. Next, a
review behind the purpose of each topic in the packet is provided. Lastly, the
conclusion wraps up and includes an overview of our entire report.

General Research
Methods

In order to understand CSCMPs
financial situation, it is critical to
analyze their records, including balance
sheets and previous corporate
donations.

The Financial Situation

According to CSCMPs 2013-2014
financial records, the most recent
available balance was $7,685.05 on April
1st, 2014. In addition to this balance,
open purchase orders with a total value
of $919.80 counted against the total. The
dates of the purchase orders, which are
not expected to be closed, range from
April 18th, 2012 to September 10th,
2013. Therefore, the total cash balance
in the CSCMP account was $8,604.85.

2013-2014 Corporate Donations

CSCMP received three donations this
school year from corporations, totaling
$5000. Figure 1.1 displays the individual
corporate donations, as well as the total
donations.

(Figure 1.2)

2013-2014 Operational Expenses

As of April 4
th
, 2014 CSCMP had
$3,464.57 of expenses total. Figure 1.2
provides a breakdown of these
expenses.
The categories from largest to
smallest are:
1. Food - $1,554.17
2. Clothing - $588.44
3. Transportation - $478.44
4. Awards and Gifts - $455.97
5. Professional Photos and
Business Cards - $265.92
6. Miscellaneous Expenses -
$221.631

(Figure 1.1)
5

CSCMP estimates spending
approximately $1,000 more, placing
total expenses at approximately
$4,464.57 for the 2013-2014 school year.

Change in Balance over 2013-2014
School Year

Since CSCMP received $5000 and
expects to spend $4464.57, the balance is
expected to rise by $535.43.

Need for Future Funding

CSCMP communicated that they
wanted to increase travel opportunities,
but currently cannot afford to do so.
Traveling incurs many expenses.
CSCMP is interested in attending the
CSCMP Global Conference in San
Antonio, Texas in September 2014.
Figure 1.4 shows the projected cost to
send six members to this event. Though
funding from the University Park
Allocation Committee (UPAC) will
absorb much of the total cost, CSCMP is
expected to spend $2,676 out of pocket.
Given the current financial situation,
this is not feasible for the organization.
Therefore, through the utilization of the
corporate sponsorship packet, CSCMP
members can attend the conference in
order to build their resumes, network
with supply chain professionals, and
build on their knowledge in the field.

Packet Research

CSCMP defined the need for increased
corporate sponsorship and suggested
that a corporate sponsorship packet
would be an effective way to increase
sponsorship. In order for this strategy
to be effective, the packet needed to
convey what CSCMP is, what they do,
and why they need funding. These
(Figure 1.4)
6

main points, and how they were
incorporated into the final product, will
be addressed in this report.

Other Corporate Packets

Strategies for a successful corporate
were compiled by researching other
Penn State organizations. Student
organizations were largely focused on,
including the Professional Management
Association (PMA) and THON (Penn
State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon).

Analyzing PMAs Corporate
Sponsorship Packet

PMA had numerous aspects to their
corporate packet that made it attractive and
successful. Although PMA was unable to
provide their final product for observation,
they shared information on their packets
contents, as well as strategies on how to
incorporate these topics into a packet.
Because PMA is a Smeal College of
Business student organization, it is
similar to CSCMP in theme. The
findings are as follows:
Mission statement
Organizational goals
Executive board structure
Benefits of being a member
Organizational accomplishments
Letter from the president

A prominent feature of PMAs corporate
sponsorship packet was the personal
testimonies of their members, including
a letter from the president.
Analyzing THONs Corporate
Packet

The Penn State Dance Marathon
(THON) is the largest student-run
philanthropy in the world. While many
donations come from student
organizations, corporate donations
make up a large part of the $113 million
THON has raised since 1973.

THONs corporate packet has ten levels
of sponsorship. Each subsequent level
has increasing benefits for the
sponsoring party. A similar two-tier
system is utilized in CSCMPs corporate
packet.

Finding a Graphic Designer

A visually-appealing corporate packet is
necessary to attract sponsors. A graphic
designer was contracted to achieve this
goal. In addition to designing the
layout of the corporate packet, the
designer created a new logo for CSCMP
that is more professional and attractive
than its previous logo.

Corporate Sponsorship
Packet: Page-by-Page

Understanding the Cover Design

The cover is potentially the most
important page of the corporate
sponsorship packet; it sets the tone for
the rest of the packet. The three shades
of blue seen on the cover correspond
with the three shades of blue in the
global CSCMP logo. This global logo is
also incorporated into the Penn State
CSCMP logo, which is presented at the
bottom of the page.

Figure 1.7

The triangular designs on the cover also
correspond with the global CSCMP
logo. This triangular theme is repeated
throughout the packet to create
cohesion.

Introduction (The Worlds
Leading Source for the Supply
Chain Management Profession)

The section introduces the club and
gives the reader insight into the impact
CSCMP has on its members and on its
community. The images relate to
transportation, which is a vital aspect of
supply chain management. The
triangular designs are utilized again.

We Are Penn State. We Are
CSCMP

CSCMP is not only a student
organization in the Smeal College of
Business, but also has an international
presence. Providing a broad overview
and a history of the global organization
relates the student organization of
CSCMP at Penn State to its larger entity.
This section of the corporate packet is
necessary before details of sponsorship
are explained.

How Corporate Sponsorship
Benefits CSCMP

This section provides an insight into the
usage of corporate donations. The goal
of this page is to convey to sponsors that
funds donated will have a positive
impact on the CSCMP members. The
donations will directly contribute to
their professional development.
8

This section of the packet lists a number
of benefits that members receive from
corporate donations:
Personal business cards
Professional photos
Supply chain facility tours
Professional development events
Networking events
Conference attendance

How Sponsorship Benefits You

When corporations agree to sponsor
CSCMP, they receive benefits as well:
Access to the resume book
Event priority
Website logo

The resume book serves as a recruiting
tool. The book will content the resumes
of the best and brightest supply chain
students. This will ease the burden of
recruiting on campus for corporations
by providing an alternative for
discovering potential candidates.

CSCMP discovered the need to limit
corporate events during peak recruiting
season. Event priority gives the
corporations priority access to events
during these times.

The corporate sponsors logo will be
displayed on the CSCMP website. This
gives the company exposure to
members of the organization creating a
positive perception of the corporation.

Levels of Sponsorship

As a convenience to potential sponsors,
we have provided different levels of
sponsorship. The levels provide
different benefits based on the size of
the donation. These levels were
determined as a need by CSCMP
leadership.

The Corporate Sponsor level is achieved
through a $500-$1,999 donation. They
receive:
Access to resume book
Website Logo
The Premium Sponsor level is achieved
through a donation at or exceeding
$2,000. They receive:
Access to resume book
Website logo
Event priority

Current Corporate Perspective

It is important to illustrate to potential
corporate sponsors what a relationship
with CSCMP looks like. Through
CSCMPs current collaboration with the
manager of supply chain operations at
Bayer, we were able to show the
positive impression left with corporate
partners.

A Message From Our Members

Mirrored from the PMA corporate
packet, this section provides
corporations with a personal
perspective from its members. On top
9

of providing information about the
organization, these quotes show the
dedication and passion of the CSCMP
members. The quotes provided in the
corporate packet were derived from the
following questions:
1. What does CSCMP mean to you?
2. How does sponsorship benefit
CSCMP?

10

Conclusion

This corporate packet will better serve to align CSCMP with corporations for future
success as an organization. Both members and companies will benefit from a stronger
relationship.

We compiled a corporate sponsorship packet in response to CSCMPs request. A
significant amount of research was compiled by observing the best practices of other
student organizations (such as PMA and THON) and their corporate packets. A
graphic designer was contracted to create a visually appealing layout, which will attract
future corporate sponsors.

We hope CSCMP will attract numerous sponsors to reach their of obtaining $8000 for
organizational expenses, such as events including corporate visits and professional
management information sessions.

Thank you for giving us this opportunity. We look forward to your future successes as an
organization.
