INTRODUCTION TO PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGY

Special Task: Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is by far the largest organization that
serves the community of oil and gas industry. With such a long history since 1950, it become
relevant for oil and gas industry players to get involved in this society. In fact, SPE
membership is ranging from students through the professional level as to realize their mission
to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration,
development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public
benefit; and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and
professional competence.
Therefore, it is crucial to explore and ask a question; what is SPE? You are required
to search all possible information about SPE; the events/activities organized by SPE,
membership, benefits as a member etc. Next prepare your report in power point
presentation. Also write your own view on how you can utilize the membership of SPE
currently, as a student and for your better future in oil and gas industry.
You have 3 hours (2 hours on 04 December 2013 during your lecture time, and
another hour on 05 December 2013 during your tutorial time) to prepare and complete your
report. Several of you will be selected to present your report on 05 December 2013 during
lecture time. Therefore, please get ready for the presentation as well.
Please note that any act of plagiarism will be penalized and marks will be deducted
based on the numbers of similarity in every report (e.g. 2 similar reports will result-in half
marks deducted and so forth).
