You will work in a multi-cultural team with three or four other students from your seminar
group. Each team should choose a different question from the list below. (in order to
maximise learning across the seminar group).
Please read the assessment / marking criteria and referencing guideline for further detailed
information below.
1. “Teams whose members come from different nations and backgrounds place special
demands on managers—especially when a feuding team looks to the boss for help
with a conflict.” You need to find the impact of differences in global teams including
the leadership style, resolving conflicts and decision making. Relevant examples
should be provided.
2. Why is communicating effectively a critical factor in managing across cultures? Use a
cross-cultural model of communication to explain how perceptions and noises can
influence the delivery and effectiveness of a message. Suggest how to avoid such
cross-cultural miscommunication problems
5. You are required to identify the use of corporate language policies in across culture
environment and discuss the main components of different language policies that
could take into consideration. The answer should be more elaborative with suitable
examples
6. It is required for you to find how ethical issues to be considered in multinational
business and effect of ethical and culture in across cultures. You are further required
to provide different examples to strengthen your answer.
Your first task as a team is to research the topic and to produce a 2500-word paper on your
chosen question. You are not expected to cover all aspects of the topic but to choose a
particular angle, or focus. You should make it clear in the introduction to your paper what is
the approach to the question that your group has taken. The paper should then explore the
question in relation to the specific angle that you have chosen. It should apply relevant
theory from the field of cross-cultural management and show the implications and
relevance of the issues for management practice. You must include relevant material
drawn from articles in academic journals that you have consulted in researching your topic.
Please note that the paper and presentation together comprise a group assignment. We
cannot accept individual work as an alternative for either part.
Teamwork
It is very important that all group members contribute fully to researching and writing your
paper and preparing for, and participating in, the group presentation. It is the responsibility
of all team members to keep in touch with each other and to keep the other team members
updated on their progress. If you are having particular problems in your team, which you
are unable to resolve among yourselves, then you should raise this with your seminar tutor
in good time.
You should append to your paper a team diary (750 words) that records the key
meetings/discussions (with dates) of your group and indicates the contribution of each
member to the discussion and to the completion of the paper. This must be circulated to all
members and agreed by them before submitting your paper.
