Three-phase problems (2

nd
part)
Problem 5.
A balanced 3-phase distribution line is used to supply two balanced Y-loads that are connected in
parallel:
Load 1: 32kVA at 0.85 pf, lagging
Load 2: 20kVA at 0,60 pf, lagging.
The line voltage at the load is 690V rms at 50Hz. Determine the line current and the combined power
factor (pf) at the load.
Problem 6.
A balanced 3-phase distribution line is used to supply four balanced Y-loads that are connected in
parallel:
Load 1: 13kVA at 0.85 pf, lagging Load 2: 25kVA at 0,93 pf, leading
Load 3: 12kW and 7kVAr Load 4: 16kW at unity pf.
The line voltage at the load is 440V rms. Find the line current in the distribution line. What is the
impedance per phase of an equivalent -load?
Problem 7.
The wire impedance per phase in each transmission line of a 3-phase system is (5+j3). The lines
feed three balanced loads that are connected in parallel.
Load 1: 37kVA at 0.72 pf, lagging Load 2: 64kVA at 0,83 pf, leading
Load 3: 55kW and 29kVAr.
The line voltage at the load end is 3300V rms. Find the line current and the line voltage at the source
end.
Problem 8.
In a balanced Y- three phase system, the source line voltage is 330V rms. The impedance per phase
of delta load is (30+j27). The line impedance is (2+j3). Find the phase current of the -load.
Problem 9.
In a 3-phase balanced system the Y-source line voltage is 400V rms and the load consumes 36kW of
power in each phase at pf of 0,72 lagging. Three capacitors, each with the impedance of (-j2), are
connected in parallel with the original load in a Y configuration. Calculate the value of power factor
of the combined load (seen by the source).
Problem 10.
A balanced 3-phase distribution line is used to supply three loads. L1 is Y-load with 1,5kVA at 0,80 pf,
lagging, L2 is a welding machine with impedance (10+j100) connected between R-T phases, L3 is an
one-phase resistance heater at power of 2kW, connected with S-phase. The line voltage is 400V rms
at 50Hz. Determine the line currents and adjust the proper value of fuses in each line.
