1. A balanced 3-phase load of 30 MW is supplied at 132 kV, 50 Hz and 0.85 pf lagging by means of
a transmission line. Series impedance is (20 + j52) Ω and total phase neutral susceptance is 315
micro mho. Using nominal T method determine ABCD constants, sending end voltage and voltage
regulation of the line.
2. A balanced 3-phase load of 30 MW is supplied at 132 kV, 50 Hz and 0.85 pf lagging by means of
a transmission line. Series impedance is (20 + j52) Ω and total phase neutral susceptance is 315
micro mho. Using nominal Pi method, determine ABCD constants, sending end voltage and voltage
regulation of the line.
3. A 3-phase transmission line 300 km has the following constants: Series impedance of (0.02 +
j0.0833) Ω/km and shunt susceptance of 3.3333 micro mho/km. Calculate by rigorous method
sending end voltage and current when the line is delivering a load of 50 MW at 0.8 pf lagging.
Receiving end voltage is kept constant at 220 kV. Assume frequency as 50 Hz.
4. Find Y-bus for the given network by singular transformation method.

5. Find Y-bus for the given network by direct inspection method. Series Impedance of each line is
(0.02 + j0.08) Ω and shunt admittance is j0.02 Ω.

6. For the given circuit, find the maximum power that can be transferred under the following condition
(i) when the system is under normal operation and (ii) when TL2 is open. Plot the power angle
curve for all the above two cases with the generator delivering 1 pu power to the infinite bus bar.
7. For the given circuit, find the maximum power that can be transferred when TL2 is shorted in the
middle. Plot the power angle curve with the generator delivering 1 pu power to the infinite bus bar.

8. A power plant has 3 units with the following cost equations

C1 = 0.02P12 + 1.95 P1 + 100 Rs/hr
C2 = 0.015P22 + 2.10 P2 + 120 Rs/hr

C3 = 0.005P32 + 2.2 P3 + 130 Rs/hr

Maximum demand = 300MW. Find the optimal load shared by each of the units subject to the
constraints. Maximum generation of 185 MW and minimum generation of 40 MW for all the units.
9. In the given system, generator has a rating of 50 MVA and the inertia constant H = 2.7 MJ/MVA
at rated speed. E = 1.05 pu, V = 1 pu, Xd ’ = 0.2 pu, X1 = X2 = 0.4 pu. The generator is supplying 50
MW to the infinite bus. A three-phase fault occurs in the middle of line 2. Plot a swing curve for a
sustained fault up to a time of 0.5 s. The incremental time is 0.05s.

10. Figure shows the one-line diagram of a simple three bus power system with generators at buses 1
and 3. The system parameters are given in the Table A and the load and generation data in Table
B. Line impedances are marked in per unit on a 100 MVA base, and line charging susceptances are
neglected. The voltage at bus 3 is maintained at 1.04 pu. Taking bus 1 as slack bus obtain the load
flow solution using Gauss-Seidel iterative method using Y-bus. Use MiPower software.
