Welcome to Kindergarten! I am so glad to have your child in class this year. I will
work very hard to make your childs kindergarten experience enoya!le and rewarding.
"he items !elow will help your child adust more smoothly to his#her kindergarten
experience. Please pay special attention to each one. $ou might want to hang this
somewhere special in your house, so that you may re%er !ack to it during the %irst
months o% school.
"he %irst six weeks o% school please pin your childs !us tag on him#her each
morning. I% the !us tag gets lost ust pin a note on your child. "his will help
the aides, the !us drivers and me get your child to and %rom school with a
minimum amount o% con%usion. I% you ever have a &uestion or concern a!out
!using, the phone num!er to the !us garage is '()*)+,(.
I% your child is to ride a di%%erent !us than usual, i% he#she is to !e picked up
early, i% someone other than the regular person needs to pick him#her up, or i%
there are any other changes regarding pick up %rom school, PLEASE SEND A
NOTE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DAY. I will not put any child on a
di%%erent !us or let them leave with anyone other than the regular person
without noti%ication %rom you. -e sure to read the school policy at the
!eginning o% the year regarding pick up and drop o%% procedures. "hese will !e
outlined in the school hand!ook that will !e sent home when school !egins.
.otes will !e sent home periodically throughout the year pinned to your childs
clothing or in their -// !inders. Please check %or these and alert !a!ysitters
and others to save them %or you, as they will !e important. /xamples0 %ield
trip notes, party notices, school dismissal notes, newsletters, etc.
1end your child to school in washa!le clothing. We will !e working with many
messy materials 2 paints, clays, glue, etc.
Please put your childs initials or name on the la!els o% their sweaters, coats,
and#or ackets. 1ometimes the children have trou!le keeping up with these
items and this will help in identi%ying %ind lost items.
/ach child needs to !ring a !ackpack or small !ag 3grocery !ags are %ine4 to
school each day. "hey will not !e allowed to take things home on the !us
without a !ag or !ackpack. Please do not send !ackpacks with wheels.
-ackpacks should have your childs name on them too.
Do not allow your child to !ring toys to school unless a note is sent home a!out
a special show and tell. 5!out )*6 weeks into school we will have show and tell
on 7ridays. /ncourage your child to !ring in things %or the science ta!le or
things he#she makes at home.
Please in%orm the school o% address or phone num!er changes.
$our child needs to stay home when he#she has0
8 a !ad cold 8 earache
8 a sore throat 8 rash
8 %ever 8 pink eye
8nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
When your child returns to school, he#she needs to !ring a note explaining the
a!sence, pre%era!ly %rom your doctor. 5ny child that does not !ring a note will
have an unexcused a!sence.
9edicine can !e given at school i% it is in the prescription !ottle, !ut you will
need to come in and %ill out a permission %orm.
$our child will have homework to complete during most weeks. "his homework
will take no more than :,*:; minutes to complete and will only !e re&uired <*=
times a week 3less o%ten at the !eginning o% the year4. I may occasionally
re&uire a !igger proect, !ut I will allow plenty o% time %or these. I am
re&uiring homework in order to give students additional practice with what has
!een studied throughout the week, to encourage a connection !etween home
and school and to help keep you involved in what we are doing at school. $our
child will need help and monitoring with the homework. Please think o% this as
an opportunity to spend a %ew special moments with your child 2 not as chore. I
promise it is not my intent to !urden your !usy lives. It is my intent to %oster
connections !etween school and home and to help your child !egin to develop
those ha!its that will help him or her to succeed as they progress through
school.
