2014 SIAC Lifetime Achievement Winners

Marilyn King

Marilyn served as a loyal supporter of Bosse High School and all of its athletic programs from day one. She was
an outstanding physical education teacher and a coach of both the Girls Track and Boys Tennis.
In her last year of coaching, her Girls Track team produced a State winning 4 x 100 relay team. But, her
concern for her students went well beyond the classroom. She was a generous person and was willing to help
whenever she saw a need. Marilyn was very interested in Bosse sports and also many of the other extra-
curricular activities. She was a leader both inside and outside the school setting.
She will always be remembered as a likeable, cooperative faculty member and a devoted, caring teacher. She
produced many successful male tennis players while at Bosse as well, but her influence on all the students and
athletes she touched is still felt today.
Marilyn was one of the pioneers of womens coaching in the SIAC. Her leadership and model of service have
opened avenues and opportunities for many young women and female coaches to follow her lead.


Papa Joe Unfried

Papa Joe Unfried is an Evansville legend, both on and off the field of play. He is a 1997 member of the
University of Evansville Hall of Fame, after starring in both baseball and football at U of E. In addition to his
baseball prowess for the Purple Aces, he was a star fullback for an Aces squad that won a Refrigerator Bowl title.
After college, Joe experienced great success on the baseball field. He spent six years in professional baseball
as a member of the Braves and Athletics organizations. His final two years in pro ball were spent as a member of
the Evansville Braves professional team.
Papa Joe was also a distinguished teacher and coach during his long tenure at Bosse High School. He
followed that career path by becoming the Athletic Director at Bosse as well. His name is part of the Hot Stove
League scholarship that is given every year to a deserving young athlete in the area.
Papa Joe Unfried was one of the true great legends of the SIAC. His service and guidance to the young
people he touched is a shining example of all those that follow in his path.
